すっかりブログをご無沙汰してしまい申し訳ありませんでした。

トロムソ最後の日の嬉しかったこと。
Some things that pleased me on the last day here

1. 日本人のお友だちとランチできた!
( トロムソには30人から40人の日本人の方々が住んでいらっしゃるのです！）
I had lunch with a Japanese friend!
(There are between 30 and 40 Japanese living in Tromso!)



（ノルウェー名物、 フィッシュグラタン！）
(Norwegian speciality: Gratinated fish)

2.最後の夕食は相方さんのお父さんお母さんと。
ラムは本当に美味しいんです！
I had dinner with my partner's parents.
Lamb meat is really good!



3.トロムソの観光地点20カ所の日本語案内を作り終えることができた！
観光案内所の日本人スタッフの協力に心から感謝です。
I finished making the guidance in Japanese for 20 sightseeing spots.
I appreciate the support from the staff of the Tromso tourist office.



この2ヶ月半、
私の相方さんの家族の皆さん、

トロムソではもう白夜は終わりました。
The midnight sunset in Tromso.

暑中お見舞申し上げます！

日本では35℃を超えたとのこと。
涼しさよ、届け～～！
と思いを込めてお届けします。
I heard that it was over 35 ℃ in Japan.

車で一時間ほどのところにソマリという島があります。
以前は夏に向けて動物たちをここに移動させたそうです。
それで、ソマリは、「夏の島」という意味なんですって。
There is an island named Sommaroy which we can drive to in one hour.
People used to move the animals there for the summer,
so Sommaroy means "summer island".

海は、泳ぐには冷たいだろうけど、
ヨットやボートは最高でしょう。
The sea may be too cold to swim but it must be great for sailing.



海を渡る風に
草花が揺れている。
風に乗るカモメの飛行もなんとも爽快。
The wind is blowing over the sea,
flowers are waving in it.
The seagull's flight in the wind looks very refreshing.





向こうに見える山は、ホヤという島。
The mountain seen over there is Haaja island.


岩場もあれば、白浜
そして、エメラルドグリーンの海。
前に、そう一か月前に来た時は雪をかぶった山も望めました。
There is some rocky ground and some white beaches、
and the emerald green colored sea.
We saw a snow-capped mountain when I went there once before, a month ago.

なんとも不思議なところです。
What a fantastic place!

なんて心地よい植物園！

天気予報で9日には気温が上がるって言っていたら、
大当たり、突然24℃になりました。
だけど、今日は14度。
こういう変わり方が、ここの気候なんです。

The weather forecast said that the temperature would increase on 9th, and it was true and it became 24℃ suddenly.
But today it is 14℃.
Such variations are normal for the climate here.

とっても暖かかった木曜日に植物園に行ってきました。
I went to the Botanic Garden on Thursday when it was very warm.

以前9月に来た時は、花はほとんど咲いてなかったんです。
ところが、今回はなんて綺麗なんでしょう！
When I was here earlier, in the month of September, I could see a few flowers.
But this time, how beautiful!

ロックガーデンというのも日本の植物園とは違うし、
見たことのない花がいっぱい。
ポカポカの中で気持ちはいいし、
最後のカフェもワッフルも美味しかった、高くなかったし😊
The rocky garden is different from Japanese botanic gardens,
and there are a lot of flowers that I have never seen before.
I was comfortable in the warm weather
and at the end of the visit I enjoyed good tea and waffles, not expensive.

心地よい刺激に包まれて幸せ～～！
Everything was very comfortable and stimulating so I feel very happy!

もっと早く来たらよかったなあ～。
I should have come here earlier.😆

パイプオルガンの音色に想う

この教会は、 1965年に建てられたものです。
そのデザイン、大きなステンドグラスは、
自由で斬新、シンプルな雰囲気を作っています。
This cathedral was built in 1965.
Its design and large glass mosaics create a free, fresh and simple atmosphere.

白夜の間は、毎晩11時半からミッドナイトコンサートというのがあります。
でも、私は夏の間、昼間の2時から毎日やっているオルガンコンサートに行ってきました。

They have a midnight concert every evening at 23:30 during the midnight sun season.
But I went to the organ concert which is every day at 14:00 during the summer.



白夜でこそ見ることができる光景が浮かんできます。
It reminds me of the scenery that we can see under the midnight sun.

曲もパイプオルガンの音も素敵でした。
でも、実は私は正直満足していないのです。
The tunes and the sound of the pipe organ were nice.
But, actually I was not completely satisfied.


25分のコンサートは、短すぎます！
せめてもうあと5分聞かせてほしかった！
The concert lasted for 25 minutes, which is too short!
I wished we could listen for 5 minutes more at least！

でも…
通常この教会に入るのに40 クローネ
コンサートは70 クローネ

まあ、しかたがないか…😆

But …
the normal admission is 40 NOK,
and the ticket price for this concert was 70 NOK,
so I can't really complain.

ベッケルが川を作る

ノルウェーに来てから、雪の残った山をたくさん見てきました。
そして、ずっと私の心を惹きつけているものがあります。
I have seen a lot of mountains with leftover snow since I arrived in Norway.
And there is one thing that has always charmed me.

それは、ベッケル。
It's bekker.

遠目から山を見ると、どの山にも白い線がいくつもあります。
近づいてみると、岩質の山肌をくねくねと這うように、勢いよく流れています。
それは水、雪解けのシーズンでさらに勢いもあるんですね。
When I look at mountains from far away, every mountain has some white lines.
When I get closer they seem to wriggle and rush down rocky mountain sides.
It is water, and there is more of it during the thaw.



ノルウェー語でbekk(ベッケ単数） bekker（ベッケル 複数）と言うそうです。
In Norwegian it is named "bekk" in singular form, "bekker" in plural form.

遠目には見えないような小さなベッケルもあります。
There are very small bekker that we can't see from far away.

先日山に登った時は、雪の下を流れる小さなベッケルに出逢いました。
I saw a small bekk running under the snow when I walked on the mountain the other day.



次こそ、写真にとるぞ！
車の窓からは、あまりにも一瞬で撮れない。
I'll take the picture of the next bekk!
But it passed too fast for taking a picture from the window of the car.

ベッケを写真に撮るのは、本当に難しい。
It is very dufficult to take pictures.



ノルウェーには、
こんな諺があるそうです。
Norway has this proverb:

"Mange bekker små gjør en stor å"
「たくさんの小さなベッケルが大きな川を作る」。
"Many small streams make a big river".

これは、こんな比喩にも使われるそうです。

「たくさんの小さな変化は、大きな違いを作る」

This is used as an analogy for
"many tiny changes can make a big difference"

朝食をベランダで食べると…？

今日の朝食は、ベランダで食べました。
We had breakfast on the veranda this morning!

お休みの日は、こういう朝食。
パンにジャムやいろいろなチーズ・ハムなどをのせて食べます。
こんな朝食すぐ飽きるだろうと思ってましたが、
トッピングを楽しんでいたら、まだ飽きていません😊
むしろ楽！

It's holiday style breakfast.
We eat bread with jam, several cheeses, ham and so on.
I thought I'd become fed up of this kind of breakfast soon but I have been enjoying the various toppings and I'm not fed up yet 😄
And it is easy!

でかけると、いつも家を見てるんですが、
どの家にも庭にテーブル椅子が外に置いてあります。
そう、アパートも、バルコニーに。
Whenever I go out, I look at houses.
I can see every house has a table with chairs in the garden.
Yes, apartments too, on the balcony.

皆さん、ほんと外で食べたりお茶したりするのが好きなんですねえ。
人が見てるなんて、気にしてないようです。
Everone really likes having tea outside.
They seem to not care that other people can see into the garden.

やっぱり気持ちいいですよ。
ゆったりして、すべてにもっと大らかになってくる気がします。
I can still feel comfortable!
I feel like I can relax and I'm getting more open to everything.

日本でも庭で朝食したいなあ～。
でも、できるかなあ～？
I want to have breakfast in the garden in Japan too!
But, can I...?

協働ブログ20回目を祝って

先日のブログ、
英語と日本語で書き初めて20回目だったんです！

My last blog was the 20th since I began to write in Japanese and English!
I was moved to notice that!

私がブログを英語でも書いてみようと思ったのは、自分の英語力向上のため。
でも、ブログは人が読むものです。
私の英語は、とても読んでもらえるものではありません。
そこで、私は日本語と英語で書いてから
毎回相方さんに英文をチェックしてもらってきたんです。
My idea of writing my blog in English too is to improve my English.
but the Blog is to be read by other people,
and my English is not good enough for that.
So I had my partner check my English sentences after I wrote in Japanese and English.

私が英語と日本語で書くのに時間がかかるのは、当然です。
ところが、思いの外、チェックにも時間がかかりました。
It's natural that I need long time to write in English and Japanese.
But checking it has taken longer than I expected.

彼が直してくれても、私の意図と違うこともあります。
すると、彼は、私の話をよく聞いてから、新たな表現を提案してくれます。
Even if he fixed my writing, it sometimes did not match my thinking so he would suggest a new phrase after listening to my explanation.

「それそれ！」というときもあれば、「私の日本語よりもいい！」というときもあります。
そんな場合は、私が日本文を考え直します。
There were some times when I said "that's right!" or at other times "it's better than my original Japanese sentence."
In such cases, I reconsidered and fixed my Japanese.

また、二人で時間をかけて考えても調べても
しっくりくる英語と日本語が見つからない場合もあるんです。
そんな時は、妥協できる文を見つけたり、
私が「もう削除！」と言い「そうしよう」と彼も言ったり。
Sometimes I and he considered about a good sentence for a long time with dictionary and PC, but we could not find a good way to write it.
In these cases, we found a sentence to compromise on or I told him "I'll delete!" and he answered "I agree.”

また、日本文と英文の違いから、私がノルウェーについて誤解していたことがわかることもありました。
And I sometimes discovered my misunderstandings about Norway by the differences between the Japanese and the English phrases.

読み手の立場になってみると、日本語と英語でちょっと違う文章にしたこともありました。
We sometimes had to select slightly different sentences for Japanese and English readers.

この20回は、文章で日本語と英語を近づける作業、二人の協働によってできていたんです。
So these 20 posts each came after working with the text to get the English and Japanese close, through cooperation by both of us.

日本人も他の国の人も私のブログを読んでくださっているのが、とっても嬉しいです！
彼は、私のブログで日本語をちょっぴり勉強しているのだそうです。
私は英語はもちろん、日本語の語彙力、表現力も磨かないかん、と痛感。
I'm so happy that Japanese and people from other countries are reading my blog.
My partner has learned a bit more Japanese through my blog.
I want to improve not only my English vocabulary but also my Japanese vocabulary and phrases.

というわけで
That is why...

私たちは、お祝いでオルハーレンというパブに行きました。
We visited the Olhallen pub for our celebration.

ここは、トロムソのマックというビールの醸造所直営のパブでとっても古いんです。
自前のマックビールを含めて80種類くらい置いてあって、びっくり！
It is a very old pub owned by the Mack Brewery in Tromso.
There were 80 kinds of beers including original Mack beers there so I was surprised!

そして、私の相方さんからちょいと補足です。
And this is an appendix from my partner:

I'll try to explain the process I use when we edit the English part of the blog. The most important point is that although I obviously check for spelling errors and grammatical problems, I don't always try to change the sentences to how a native English speaker would write them. I try to leave the text as-is as much as possible, even if it is sometimes stretching the English language a little bit. This is because I want the "voice" to be hers, not mine, and also because we want the Japanese and English parts to match as much as possible, and writing the text on a line-by-line basis with Japanese followed by the same content in English. It is meant to be easy for Japanese students of English to relate to the English text, and the other way around for students of Japanese (like myself).

この環境で、子育ての悩み、大事にしていることってなんだろう？

3日目は、お隣の少年と昨日約束した折り紙作りから始まりました。
The third day started with making Origami that I promised with the neighbor boy yesterday.

一つ見せたいものがあって、その見本を作っていたんです。
だけど、「むずかしそう～！」と言って、自分でパソコン開いて
飛行機を折り始めるではないですか。
I wanted to show a sample so I was making it.
But he said "it looks difficult!" and he opened a site on the PC
and he began to make an airplane by himself.

こんな折り方知らんわ…
結局、私が教えてもらうことになりました😂
I don't know that way...
As a result, I was taught by him😅

外で、出来上がった飛行機飛ばしに夢中！
We enjoyed flying the finished airplanes outside.

そこへ彼のお母さんがやってきて
「ハープコンサートのお礼にコーヒーを一緒にいかが？」
Then his mother came and said
"shall we have a coffee time together as thanks for yesterday's concert?"

外でですよ。素敵！
It's outside! Nice!
垣根がないので、庭がさらに広く感じるんですよね。
They don't have any fence between the gardens so it's like one big garden.



その後、いい風が吹き出して、ひらめきました。
After that, a good wind started to blow and a good idea came to me!
庭で風が奏でるハープの音色を聞こう！
We'll listen to the sound of wind playing the harp!

ここの風は湿気がないし、敷地は広い草原で最高！
おー、ハープの音色も嬉しそう！
The wind here is not humid and the garden is a very large grassland, it's the best!
Oh, my harp sounds happy!



私も風の中、弾いてみると、
風と私が織りなす響きを身体中で感じられます。
I tried to play in the wind.
I could feel vibrations from the wind and my playing through my body!

それから夕食のバーベキューにも誘っていただきました。
Then they invited us to a BBQ too.




庭には、二箇所にテーブルセットがおいてあり、
一つは、屋根付きでヒーターもつけられます。
バーベキューの道具も常時おいてあるようで、
準備も容易くバーベキューは始まりました。
They have two tables with chairs in two sections of their garden, one is with a canvas roof and a heater.
The BBQ equipment is kept there all the time
and it is easy to prepare and get the BBQ started.




小さい子どもさんも3人、子ども同士で遊んでいます。
お母さんたちもっもゆっくりとしてみえます。
私も英語で喋るのも一休みして、リラックス。
Three little children are playing together.
The mothers are relaxing and talking.
I can be relaxed and having a break from talking in English.

彼らは、一緒にご飯を食べたりお喋りする機会をよく持つそうです。
They often have such a time with food and talk.

こんなに近くて開放的なところで、手軽にできるっていうのがいいよなあ。
It's very nice that they can do that easily and surrounded by open space!

私が出会ったノルウェーの男の人は、家事をよくしています。
The men I have seen are often doing the housekeeping.

この環境で
子育ての悩みって、どんなことなんだろう？
子育てで大事にしていることはなんだろう？
In this enviroment
what do they worry about?
what do they make important when raising their children.

そんな話もっと聞かせてもらったらよかった。
別の機会に聞けるよう、英語がんばろ！
I should had asked them these questions.
So I'll learn more English to ask at a later opportunity.

「じゃがいも、大戦史、ハープコンサート、白鳥」と盛り沢山！

今日は、4つお話しします。
I will tell you about 4 things today.

A ジャガイモ植えのお手伝い！ Helping with planting potatoes!
B 戦争の歴史を垣間見る。 Seeing a bit of war history
C 私のハープコンサート？ My harp concert?
D 白鳥が湖に！ The swans appeared at the lake!

A
トロムソでは、ずっと雨で気温が5℃～10℃の日が続いていました。
セニアも同じだったようで、例年より遅れてじゃがいもの植え付け。
It has been cold and rainy in Tromso with temperatures between 5℃～10℃ for a long time.
Senja seemed the same and they would plant the potatoes later than normal.



広～い！
ちなみに、売るわけでもなく、自分たちのために作っているだけです。
ノルウェーの主食は、ジャガイモですから。
It's a very large field!
But it's just for themselves, not for sale.
Because the potato is a staple food in Norway.

隣の子もたくさん手伝ってくれました。
A neighbor boy helped us a lot.

彼は、まだ英語があまり話せないのでノルウェー語です。
彼は作業をしながら、頻繁に何か質問しているようです。
ジャガイモのこと、英語や日本のことなど。

He can't speak much English yet, so he speaks Norwegian.
It seemed that he often asked about potatoes, English, and Japan while working.



そして、驚くことに
農作業に使う機械も使いこなすのです。
もちろん、大人がちゃんとそばで見ています。
And surprisingly he can control the machine for farm working.
Of course, an adult watches him closely.



とにかく彼は、全て自発的。
彼が特別なのか、環境がそうさせているのか？

Anyway he is doing everything of his own accord.
Is he special? Has the enviroment raised him so?

そして、私は？と言うと…
私は、畑に置くのを手伝っただけでした😊
And I ?
I helped with just laying potatoes on the field.

ジャガイモの収穫は9月ですって(遅い方がいいそうですが)
The potato harvest will come in September, but as late as possible.😊

2年前、妹さん夫婦は、セニアの景色を観るのに車で回ってくれました。
今回もお任せドライブ。
あんまり心地よくて、ウトウト。
Two years ago our hosts took us on a drive to view the scenery of Senja
I trusted their plan for a drive this time too.
I was too much relaxed so I got a bit sleepy.




しかし、ある光景に私の目はパッチリ！
But I woke up suddenly by a sight!






ノルウェーは、第二次世界大戦中、1940年から1945年までドイツに占領されていました。
見晴らしのよいこの場所に
ドイツが作った大砲や要塞、海岸を見張る所などがそのまま残されていました。

During World War II Norway was occupied by Germany from 1940 to 1945.
On this place with a good view
some German artillery, fortresses, and bunkers for watching the coast were still left.

現在,平和を守っているノルウェーの主たる考え方は何なのでしょう？
What is the Norwegian main thinking that can protect peace today?

セニアに発つとき、着いたばかりのハープを置いていくのが、
忍びなく、ハープを持ってきたんです。

When we left for Senja, I felt lonely about leaving behind the harp that just arrived to me.
So I brought it with me!

ジャガイモ植えの後、妹さん夫婦からの提案
今夜、隣の人を呼んでハープコンサートしよう！

After planting potatoes
our hosts suggested a harp concert in the evening, with neighbors.

でも、私4曲しか弾けないんですけど…
Ok！Ok！
え…ほんとに…？
But I can play just 4 tunes.
It's OK, OK!
Really??

皆さん、アイリッシュハープの音色を聞くのは初めだそうです。
相方さんが、ノルウェー語で曲を紹介してくれて
皆さん、とっても真剣に聞いてくださいました。
The audience heard the Irish harp for the first time.
My partner introduced my tunes in Norwegian,
and they listened to my playing very seriously.

温かい拍手に、私が泣けてきそうになりました。
「言葉を超えて、音楽で通じる」
って、こういうとでしょうか?
I was likely to cry with the very warm clapping.
"We can communicate without words through music".
Can that be said in this case?

思えば、私だけのコンサートって、初めでした。
貴重なコンサート。
絶対忘れません。
I noticed later that that was my first solo concert.
It's very precious.
I can't forget it ever.

こんないい関係を近所の人と作っている妹さん夫婦、
とっても素敵です！
Our hosts who have such a good relationship with their neighbors are very nice!

なんと長くて濃い1日だったことか…
湖を見ると、二羽の白鳥が来ているではないですか！
妹さんたちが呼ぶと寄ってくるんですよ。さすが！

How long and full today was...
I looked at the lake and found a couple of swans had arrived!
When my hosts called them, they came close to us.
Great!

夜の登山？から

From driving to Senja

金曜日の午後セニア（Senja)に向かって、ドライブ。
相方さんの妹さんのお宅にお邪魔しました。
ここは田舎で、トロムソではできないことがいっぱい！
そこで、3日に分けて書きますね。
We drove to Senja in the afternoon on this Friday.
We stayed at my partner's sister's home.
Senja is a rural area and there are many things that we can't experience in Tromso,
so I'll write about that for three blog posts.

✳︎✳︎✳︎✳︎ ✳︎ ︎✳︎✳︎✳︎ ✳︎ ︎✳︎✳︎✳︎ ✳︎ ︎✳︎✳︎✳︎ ✳︎ ︎✳︎✳︎✳︎ ✳︎

到着してから、夜9時半くらいにちょっと散歩に出ました。
ところが...

「あの山のてっぺんまで歩く？」

えっ？今からですか？
…もちろん、行きました！

We arrived there and went out for an easy walk at about 21:30
But...

"Shall we walk to the top of this mountain?"

From now? I was surprised.
…Yes, of course!

では、夜の山登り？ 皆さんも写真とご一緒に。
Then let's do the mountain walk in the evening with pictures!

少し歩いて行くと、川の音。
We walked a bit and heard the sound of a river.



ここから頂上まで一時間ほど。
It will take about one hour to the top.



それにしても寒い！
あれ？ なんか聞こえた？

Anyway it's cold!
What? I heard a sound?

実は、今この山の中にはたーくさんの羊がいるんですって。
飼われているんですけど、
9月まで山で自由に過ごして、あとは集められて冬に備えて小屋の中で過ごすのだそうです。
そして、私たちに毛糸や肉を提供してくれるというわけです。

Actually there are a lot of sheep in these mountains.
They are domestic but they can stay in the mountains until September
when they are collected to live in a barn for the winter.
Some of them will provide wool and meat to us.
that is the system.

歩いていると、どこからともなく絶えず、聞こえてくるんです。
メエ～エエエエ～～
カラコロカラ…カラコロリンコロ…
（首につけられた鈴の音）
During our walk we hear their voices and the the sound of sheep bells from somewhere.

たくさんのブルーベリーや植物が、山を覆っているし
羊たちは、きっと大丈夫なんだろうな。
そうは思うんだけど、姿も見えないし、どうも信じられない。

A lot of berries and vegetation cover the mountain
so the sheep will be OK in the mountains.
But I can't see them and I can't believe it.



ところが、翌日、すぐ近くの林で子連れの羊たちに遭遇。
やっと実感がわきました。
But the next day we met some sheep and lambs in a nearby forest.
So they looked real.




そして…
And...

やった、頂上だー！振り返ると…
Oh, that's the top! I turned around and found...



頂上の木にはメールボックスがあり、中にノートが入っています。
登った人が日時と名前を書く。
子どもたちは、何回か登ると何かもらえるんですって。

There is a mailbox with a notebook inside it.
People write their name, date, and time in the book.
Children can get a small prize after going there a certain number of times.



帰って、家の前の湖を見ると…
After returning home at around midnight, when we saw the lake in front of the house...



なんて幻想的なんだろう…
時間のことなんて、まったく忘れてしまいます。

How fantastic!
I completely forgot about time.
