Former Hakuho's stablemaster Miyagino has apparently submitted his resignation to the Sumo Association. T
here have been rumors circulating online for quite some time that he was quitting,
but he has denied it himself.
Now it seems he has decided to leave the world of sumo.
There are probably many different opinions on this story,
and we don't know the inner workings of the Sumo Association,
so we can't flippantly say who is at fault, the association or Miyagino stablemaster,
but if we just look at the results,
it seems that all of the great yokozuna since Chiyonofuji have been at odds with the association.
Chiyonofuji didn't quit the association,
but despite his impressive track record,
he was left out in the cold.
In the end,
he never even became a director and passed away as an ordinary old man.
Next, Takanohana came into conflict with the association, and the stable's conditions for survival became stricter,
forcing it to close.
Asashoryu, who was once said to be the strongest Yokozuna and would surely break records, was effectively fired for bad behavior.
Hakuho, despite breaking many sumo records, was closed his stable indefinitely,
and the association never gave him permission to reopen,
so it seems he gave up.
I feel sympathy to him
this pattern is universal in human society, isn't it?
In other words, it's a common sight to see that those who achieve outstanding results are pressured by the organization to be removed.
When we were kids, everyone was crazy about Oh and Nagashima,
but neither of them were able to manage the Giants for long.
Nomo Hideo, Ichiro, and Matsui Hideki, who played in the major leagues, aren't even asked to be managers.
I guess that's just because the abilities required for players and organizational management are different.
In an organization, if someone who can't maintain harmony becomes the top, it can become a mess.
Those who achieve great results as athletes are generally stoic, have perfected their own path, and have risen to the top,
so they are basically the type who go their own way.
I think that is why they tend to be less able to bring many people together.
Well, that's true in the world of sports,
but a similar structure exists in business, where a different principle is added.
That is,
if the best employees are not crushed,
the positions of those at the top will be threatened.
A branch manager at a bank I know well
had outstanding results within the bank.
His subordinates were rumoring that he would become an executive,
but in reality he was transferred and that was the end of it.
I think the management at the time thought that if the branch manager became an executive, it would make things difficult for them,
so they nipped that in the bud.
That's true, it's impossible to be at peace if someone with far more achievements than them joins the executive ranks.
It's difficult, isn't it?
Of course you can't work in an organization if you're incompetent,
but there is also an aspect to it where you can be excluded if you're too skilled.
However, when we say "high ability," there are many people who are only high because they are in the organization.
The branch manager I mentioned earlier also moved from company to company after leaving the bank,
and eventually became a consultant himself,
but that job didn't go well either,
and I lost contact with him.
So, just because someone is highly skilled within an organization doesn't mean they'll be able to work outside of it,
and we see this a lot, especially in the real estate world.
Just because someone was a top salesman at a major company doesn't mean they'll be successful if they start their own company.
Small businesses don't have a name value
In a sense,
it takes more ability than a top salesman at a major company to pave your own way.
Our employees are also highly skilled,
because they get results with their own wisdom and effort.
And the good thing about a small business is that even if their sales performance is outstanding,
there's no one to hold them back.
So, the best part is being able to work freely and to the best of your ability without having to worry about anyone.
In a large organization,
those who stand out get hammered down,
but that doesn't happen in a small business.
If you have the power, no one can hold you back.
If you have the ability and motivation, you can go wild as much as you like.
