来週末締め切りの原稿を書きはじめる。構成に工夫をするほどに迷路に入り込む。中村一好さんを想い出し、松浦亜弥の「渡良瀬橋」を聴いた。都はるみさんがよく聴いていた曲で「どうして」とご本人に訊ねたら「そんな気持ちのときがあったでしょ」という答えが戻ってきた。湯川れい子さんと電話で打ち合わせ。「ちあきなおみが歌わないんだから、日本の歌謡界には都はるみなのよ」。そこで「都プロジェクト」を創ることになった。深夜、机後ろの本棚から山田風太郎さんの『人間臨終図巻』（徳間書店）を手にする。そうかシュテファン・ツバイクは61歳で亡命先のリオデジャネイロで服毒自殺、種田山頭火は58歳で「ころり往生」か。「無駄に無駄を重ねたような一生だった。それに湯を注いで、そこから句が生まれたような一生だった」と山頭火は書いた。いやいや、無駄があったからこそ句が生まれたのだろう。更新のためにここまで書いた文章を読み返していたらニュースで中川昭一さんが亡くなったと報じている。自裁ではないという。何があったんだろうか。
