Matchmaking services for short-term workers are growing in Japan, in tandem with a rise in the number of people looking for “gig work” to fill their free time.

Mercari is best known for its flea market app. It entered the job search business this month. Customers can use an app to quickly find work that lasts as little as one hour. There is no need for interviews or preparing resumes.

Another provider, Timee, started posting part-time positions last month with an option for applicants to become permanent hires down the road.

Sharefull has launched an app that notifies users of permanent positions based on their past experience and performance.

Yano Research Institute believes the market for such services in Japan is set to grow sharply. It sees 27-percent growth for this fiscal year from the previous period to become worth more than 82 billion yen, or 560 million dollars.

すべて世中のありにくゝ、わが身とすみかとのはかなくあだなるさま、又かくのごとし。いはむや、所により、身のほどにしたがひて、心を悩ますことは、不可計。
若しおのれが身数ならずして、權門のかたはらにをるものは、深くよろこぶ事あれども、大きに楽しむあたはず。嘆き切なる時も、聲をあげて泣くことなし。進退やすからず、立居につけて恐れをのゝくさま、たとへば、雀の鷹の巣に近づけるがごとし。若し貧しくして富める家の隣にをるものは、朝夕すぼき姿を耻ぢて、へつらひつゝ出で入る。妻子僮僕のうらやめるさまを見るにも、福家の人のないがしろなるけしきを聞くにも、心念々に動きて、時としてやすからず。
若しせばき地にをれば、近く炎上ある時、その災をのがるゝ事なし。もし邊地にあれば、往反わづらひ多く、盜賊の難はなはだし。又勢あるものは貪欲ふかく、独身なるものは人に軽めらる。財あれば恐れ多く、貧しければ、うらみ切なり。人を頼めば、身他の有なり。人をはぐくめば、心恩愛につかはる。世にしたがへば、身くるし。したがはねば、狂へるに似たり。いづれの所をしめて、いかなるわざをしてか、しばしもこの身を宿し、たまゆらも心をなぐさむべき。

【現代語訳】

総じて世の中が生きにくく、わが身と住処のはかなくもろいことは、上に述べた通りである。まして、場所柄や身の程に応じて心を悩ますことは、枚挙にいとまがない。 もしも、自分の身分が低くて、権門の傍らに住んでいる者は、深く喜ぶことがあっても、大いに楽しむことが出来ない。嘆きが切なる時にも、声を上げて泣くことが出来ぬ。一挙一動が不安定なままで、立ち居振る舞いについて恐れるさまは、たとえば、雀が鷹の巣に近づいたときのようである。もしも貧しくして富んだ家の隣りに住んでいる者は、朝夕自分のみすぼらしいさまを恥じ、相手に気兼ねしながら出入りすることとなる。自分の妻子や僮僕が富める人をうらやましがるのを見るにつけても、富んだ家の人がこちらを相手にしないでいるのを聞くにつけても、心が瞬時に動揺して、ひと時も安らかになれない。 もし狭い土地に住んでいれば、近くで火事があったとき、その災いを逃れるすべがない。もし辺地に住んでいれば、都との往復にわずらいが多く、盗賊の難も甚だしい。また、勢いあるものは欲が深く、独身の者は人に軽んぜられる。財産があれば失う恐れが多く、貧しければ恨み切なるものがある。人を頼れば、他人の奴隷となる。人の世話をすれば、心が恩愛の虜となる。世に従えば、身が束縛されて苦しい。従わねば、狂人同様に思われる。どんな場所に住み、どんな生業をしておれば、しばしの間でもこの身を世の中におき、すこしの間でも心を慰めることができようか。

第10回「女による女のためのＲ-18文学賞」大賞を受賞作短編「べしみ」は衝撃である。世の男性諸氏の意見を聞いてみたいが、誰にするかが問題だ。聞きにくいな。
