43:桑名（七里渡口）
宮から伊勢湾を「七里の渡」渡ったところ、揖斐川の川口の城下町が桑名である。ここまでの乗合船賃は、文化時代は60文で、20刻を要したという。また、この七里の渡を間遠渡ともいった。港の入口に桑名城があり、広重も背景にこの絵を描いている。築城は天正の初め、滝川一益の手によってなされた。
広重は画題を「七里渡口」としている。桑名城と伊勢の海を背景として、今二艘の船が港に入っていくところで、帆を下ろしつつある構図の動きに、この絵の魅力がある。また近景の海波がこの絵の重要な役目を勤めている。ということは動く波の描写の素晴らしさがこの絵を生かしているということである。船と波の動的なのに対し、海上遙かな帆船は悠々とした静かさで、これも近景を生かしている。
桑名は「しぐれ蛤」や白魚の名産がよく知られている。

※歌川 広重（うたがわ ひろしげ、寛政9年（1797年） - 安政5年9月6日（1858年10月12日）
浮世絵師。江戸の町火消しの安藤家に生まれ家督を継ぎ、その後に浮世絵師となったが 現代広く呼ばれる安藤広重（あんどう ひろしげ）なる名前は使用しておらず、浮世絵師としては歌川広重が正しいと言える。
天保3年（1832年）秋、広重は幕府の行列（御馬進献の使）に加わって上洛（京都まで東海道往復の旅）する機会を得たとされる。天保4年（1833年）には傑作といわれる『東海道五十三次絵』が生まれた。この作品は遠近法が用いられ、風や雨を感じさせる立体的な描写など、絵そのものの良さに加えて、当時の人々があこがれた外の世界を垣間見る手段としても、大変好評を博した。
なお、つてを頼って幕府の行列に加えてもらったとの伝承が伝わるが、実際には旅行をしていないのではないかという説もある[2]。 また、司馬江漢の洋画を換骨奪胎して制作したという説もある。

【原文】
子曰、我未見好仁者惡不仁者、好仁者無以尚之、惡不仁者其爲仁矣、不使不仁者加乎其身、有能一日用其力於仁矣乎、我未見力不足者、蓋有之乎、我未之見也

【読み下し】
子の曰わく、我れ未だ仁を好む者、不仁を悪くむ者を見ず。仁を好む者は、以てこれに尚（くわ）うること無し。不仁を悪くむ者は、其れ仁を為す、不仁者をして其の身に加えしめず。能く一日も其の力を仁に用いること有らんか、我れ未だ力の足らざる者を見ず。蓋（けだ）しこれ有らん、我れ未だこれを見ざるなり。

【通釈】
先生がいわれた、「私は、未だ仁を好む人も不仁を憎む人も見たことがない。仁を好む人はもうそれ以上のことはないし、不仁を憎む人もやはり仁を行っている、不仁の人を我が身に影響させないからだ。もしよく一日の間でも、その力を仁のために尽す者があったとしてごらん、力の足りない者など、私は見たことがない、あるいは［そうした人も］いるかも知れないが・・・・、私は未だ見たことがないのだ」

【English】
The Master said, "I have not seen a person who loved virtue, or one who hated what was not virtuous. He who loved virtue, would esteem nothing above it. He who hated what is not virtuous, would practice virtue in such a way that he would not allow anything that is not virtuous to approach his person.
"Is any one able for one day to apply his strength to virtue? I have not seen the case in which his strength would be insufficient.
"Should there possibly be any such case, I have not seen it."

『論語』は私たちの生き方の原点を見つめた思索の宝庫であり、人間性を磨く叡智が凝縮した永遠の古典。

『孟子』『大学』『中庸』と併せて儒教における「四書」の一つに数えられる。
