Jo Niijima house, Kyoto City Historical Museum

I would like to inform Jo Niijima house, Kyoto City Historical Museum that are east of Kyoto Gosho.

I ride a bus from Kyoto station, get off at Kawaramachi-Marutamachi bus stop.
Walk Teramachi street north about 100m, I arrive at Jo Niijima house.

There are Jo Niijima house and Niijima Museum.
Both are no charge.

Jo Niijima house is limited for opening.
Publishing : Tuesday, Thurseday, Saterday 10:00-16:00, except public holiday.
Special Publishing : November 13, 29 and next year March 20-22

First I enter Niijima Museum.
Some people are entering this museum.

First floor has Jo Niijima and his wife Yae pictures and some goods.
These pictures shows that they strive establishing Doshisha university.

And Jo Niijima portrite and Doshisha Rugby game painting are on display.

Second floor has a big hole.

Before entering Jo Niijima house, please understand Jo Niijima history at Niijima Museum.

Jo Niijima house is wooden Western-style Two-story.

This house has a balcony outside of the wall.
This house got Kyoto City designated tangible cultural property in 1985.



First floor has kitchen, reception room, tea room, study room, bath room.






2nd floor is not opened.

This house is the early Meiji era house, but it's stylish house is modern.
Inside, reception room and study room are luxury, but a whole is a Spartan appearance.

Yae Niijima is tall woman, so the kitchen sink is high position.

There is a stone monument of Jo Niijima house at teramachi street side.



Next I walk Teramachi street north 20m, arrive at Kyoto City historical museum.

This museum is no charge.
First, I enter the first floor of the material exhibition room.
It exhibits to explain the history of Kyoto by pictures and documents.
In the back of the exhibition room you can watch a video.
The second floor has a library that keep a number of Kyoto history books.
