Akutagawa Yamashiro

I take Takatsuki- city bus "Tsukawaki" or " Shimonokuchi" from JR Takatsuki station and am arrival to Akutagawa Yamashiro trace in getting off at "Tsukawaki" bus stop, about 30-minute walk.



Akutagawa Yamashiro was constructed by governor- Kanrei Takakuni Hosokawa at about 1520.
Akutagawa Yamashiro’s scale is east-west 500m, north and south 400m, using a natural stronghold overlooking Akutagawa river.
Akutagawa Yamashiro has many "Horikiri", "Dorui", "Kuruwa".


The first lord of a castle is Nose Noriyori, Nagayoshi Miyoshi becomes the lord of a castle from 1553 to 1560.

Akutagawa Yamashiro was destroyed by Nobunaga Oda who visited Kyoto in 1568.
Akutagawa Yamashiro is built in the Miyoshi mountain range top of 180m above sea level facing Akutagawa river.
There were not castle tower, high stone wall, Mizubori, and Akutagawa Yamashiro had a Honmaru ’main enclosure’, a Ninomaru ‘the outworks of a castle’, a Horikiri ‘channel’, a Dorui ‘fieldwork’.







From the Miyoshi mountain range top, you can look around Takatsuki city area.

In the building, the old lord of the hospital Imperial Palace of the Emperor Gosai is moved, and a style of the Edo era remains.

Tsubaki, Nikko of the natural monument Kyoto-shi-designated in the precincts is scattered, and the 100 or more kinds of camellias including the camellia are planted.
