９月５日（土）都内某所。いつものように痛いほどの眼差しで話を聞いてくれている顔がある。その真ん中で大きなあくびをする女性がいた。「疲れているんだろうな」と思いつつ選挙総括を語っていた。そこでまた大あくび。そうか、関心がないんだと判断し、話を切り上げた。統一教会問題で全国から集っている相談会での1シーン。非難しているのでもない。これが「世間」なのだ。有田芳生が東京11区でどうなろうとも無関心だった傍観者が、事後にあれこれ評論するのと同じこと。落選して喜ぶものがいるのと同じくなべて世の中はこんなもの。興味深い人間観察の２年間。渋谷のイメージフォーラムで「花と兵隊」を見る。地獄を見た人間ゆえに敗戦後も日本に帰れなかった元兵士たち。映画館を出て景色が変わって見えた衝撃度。オウムを描いたドキュメンタリー「A」の安岡卓治さんがプロデューサーだった。池袋「おもろ」。常連とわいわい雑談。「心臓の五億ビートが一般に哺乳類の寿命限界である」とは中井久夫さんの『臨床瑣談 続』の「煙草との別れ、酒との別れ」の一節。いま私たちは「文明寿命」に生きている。だから「もはやいい」ともいえるのだ。ある政治家に言われた。「オレなんて２勝５敗だよ」。でも年齢があるだろう。自問はさらに続く。中島みゆきの「ファイト！」を聴く。「ファイト! 闘う君の唄を／闘わない奴等が笑うだろう／ファイト! 冷たい水の中を／ふるえながらのぼってゆけ」。
