Shinshu Trip: Tenryu valley, Red Buckwheat

I would like to inform beautiful valley and wonderful red buckwheat flowers.

Start point is JR Iida station.
Iida station house is designed to be a Apple.
Iida town is spread to East direction from JR station.
About 5 minutes walking, you arrive at Apple tree-lined street.

Big apple trees are planted, 50% trees have a lot of apples from end of September.

More 15minutes walking, you arrive at Iida Museum.
This museum is built at Iida castle.

This museum has a lots of arts and two Dinosaur model.


Next is the house of Yanagita Kunio.
This house has a lot of books, you can read them at 1st floor library.
From south terrase, beautiful Ina valley is seen.
This house Description staff explain me a detail history of this house.

About 300m distance from this house, you arrive at hot spring : Castle in the Sky.
From this spa,you can see a wonderful town view from big bath.

I stay overnight at the hotel in Iida.
Tomorrow morning, I go to Tenryu valley by JR train.

25minutes riding, you arrive at Tenryu valley station.
Tenryu valley is famouse for Tenryu river Line down.

When you would like to ride a ship, please confirm time schedule.
Tenryu valley park is also good.

About One hour walking, you can walk around Tenryu valley park.
Tenryu valley walking Cource has an apple field, Suspension bridge, Observatory.

Suspension bridge is easy to shake, but the view is wonderful.
Green water and big rocks are combined to be a beautiful view.

Next is Red Buckwheat flowers field.
This flower festival is opened from September 21 to October 14.

Red buckwheat flowers are red and purple color.

Now they are in full bloom.
Red buckwheat flowers make a fruit only 30% compared to normal white buckwheat one.
Red buckwheat taste is strong compared to normal white buckwheat.
Nowadays lots of travelers are gathering this field to see red buckwheat flowers.
You will be impressed to see red buckwheat.

Arround red buckwheat fields, lots of apple fields are existing.

I buy red apple, it is delicious.
This red buckwheat fields are along JR Iida line.

Trip for Yonezawa city in Yamagata pref.

Today, I would like to inform the historical and traditional city Yonezawa.

Yonezawa is an individual city, having Uesugi cultures.
Current city basic is made by Kanetsugu Naoe.

Yonezawa is surrounded by mountains.
Yonezawa has lots of hot Springs, cuisines that are Yonezawa beef, Carp, Ramen.

From Yonezawa station, 7minutes walking to West.
You arrive at bridge of Mogami river.
Going west about 10minutes, I arrive at Uesugi Shrine.

This shrine is west end of Yonezawa Castle Ruins.
This shrine dedicate to Uesugi Kenshin.

Entrance of this shrine, War Flags of Uesugi Kenshin.
This flags is unique and important for Yonezawa citizens.


I worship Uesugi shrine and take a picture with Statue of Ueasugi Kenshin, and Uesugi Yozan.

Uesugi Yozan is 9th Daimyo of Yonezawa.
He expand the Shokusan promotion policy and a number of reform of large thrift finances, and rebuild make Yonezawa finances.
Next is Grave of Uesugi.

It is 1km distance from Uesugi shrine.
There are many Uesugi Daimyo from Uesugi Kenshin.
This is a national important historical place.

I rest here and buy Yonezawa beef Skewers.
It is 500yen to 1000yen.
I recommend 1000yen, 500yen is very small.

Next is Uesugi Museum.
It is modern and beautiful museum.
It shows Stage of Noh, lots of Uesugi goods, and inform Yonezawa history.

Next is Yamagata university.
This is south of Uesugi museum.

Engineering department house is a National important house.
This house is Renaissance type house.
It is beautiful.

But the damage of Tohoku big earthquake, inner sightseeing is not available.
This university is near the JR South Yonezawa station.

I go to Yonezawa by this train.
But the number of train is few, please confirm train schedule.
In fron of Yonezawa station, I go to Ramen restaurant.
Yonezawa beef Ramen is good.

In Yonezawa city 130 ramen restaurants are existing.
Yonezawa ramen's soup is made of dried small fishes and chicken, the soup taste is plainly. In thin noodles frizzy, it is delicious.
