The Philippines: Almost 6 months have passed since monster typhoon Yolanda hit. Japanese support groups continue their aid efforts on the ground, utilizing their knowledge from Japan's own disaster experiences. An NGO led by Sadakazu Ikawa, who was an evacuee during the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake, is currently supplying building materials to people who lost their homes. A company with cutting-edge water filtering technology has stepped in to help in the midst of a water shortage crisis. The Japanese government is also moving to support towns worst hit by the disaster in their recovery process. The program follows their commitment to helping with restoration, working side by side with the local people.

学校を直しながら、地域の雇用を生み出す「緊急雇用（cash for work）」。ICANエンジニアグループによる面接が続く。熟練大工は1日400ペソ（約1,000円）、大工見習いは、1日260ペソ（約650円※法定最低賃金）の収入が得られる。

Cash for Work scheme creates income opportunities for the people while rehabilitating their children's schools. Interviews by ICAN engineer groups continue. Skilled labor for 400 pesos a day and unskilled ones for 260 pesos a day.

フィリピンは、世界のココナッツオイルの40％を生産している。今回、そのフィリピンにあるココナッツの内、約15％が、台風の被害を受けた。

台風が来る前でさえ、ココナッツで生計を立てる家の多くが厳しい生活を送ってきた。しかし、今回の台風で、そのココナッツまで失ってしまった。

今回、いろいろ実験しながら、ココナッツの実でこんなものができた。考えていても進まないので、とりあえずいろんなことを試す。（作ったのは、彼女たちのお母さんたち。）

The Philippines produces 40% of coconuts oil in the world. The super typhoon damaged 15% of all coconuts in the Philippines.

Most of the people who lived with coconuts were having hard time to sustain their lives. And this time, even the coconuts, which were the last means of income, were lost.

After some experiments, these in the pic were produced from coconuts. Hope we can find alternative livelihoods. (their mother produced them)

お家の柱となるココナッツの木、一家庭あたり25本×122世帯への提供。ICANが村で組織したシェルターコミッティ（委員会）のボランティアが、1本1本、木の質を確認し、OKが出た木だけが、提供用に並べられる。

被災地では、まだ若くやわらかい質の良くないココナッツの木が、出回っている。頑丈な家を建てるためには、必ず1本1本確認して、質の良いものだけを選んでいく必要がある。

25 coco lumbers per household are provided for 122 households in Brgy Dacay, DUlag, Leyte. Members of community based shelter committee organized by ICAN check their quality and arrange qualified ones for distribution.

Many young coco lumbers, which are soft and not good quality, are on sale in disaster affected areas. It is very important to check one by one carefully to construct durable houses.

卒業した子どもたちが通う学校には、まだ屋根がない。このような状況の中で、子どもたちは、通学し続けて、本当に偉いと思う。


【緊急募金】
　フィリピン中部の島を横断した超大型の台風30号（ハイエン）は、1,600万人を超える被災者を出しました。これに対して、アイキャンでは、これまでの20年間のフィリピンでの活動経験を活かし、緊急救援活動を実施しています。
　現在、本活動に対して、募金を集めております。約1,000円で児童一名の学用品になります。ご協力をよろしくお願いします。また、「シェア」「いいね」もよろしくお願いします。

台風で校舎は壊れ、いろいろと大変な思いをしたけれど、多くの方のご寄付でなんとか学用品も揃い、今日卒業の日を迎えました。お父さんやお母さんの目には涙が溢れます。
