The government intends to revise the current Copyright Law so that the fake products such as the illegally copied musical CDs or movie CDs are prohibited to put on the Internet auction sites. After the law's revision, criminal punishments would be inflicted on the persons who have violated the legislation ,without victims' accusations.

副詞と前置詞の続き

次の文章を読んでください。

「makes its way up the organizational ladder」のところが問題なのでした。makes its way up,でupは副詞なのか、それとも、up the organizatiuonal ladderでupは前置詞なのか？副詞だと、makes its way upのあとのthe organizatiuonal ladderだけで意味を成さなければなりませんー副詞目的格なる名詞を置くだけで副詞として機能させる方法もあるらしいから。結論は、前置詞だろうと思うのです。make its way, up the organizational ladderでしょう。このときは「コロケーション検索」で調べたわけではなく。upを辞書で調べて、前置詞の使い方に、clim up the tree, sail up the Hudson, travel up country, などがあることがわかったので合点がいったわけです。up は普通副詞で使われることが多くて、前置詞のつかいかたにはあまりなれ親しんでいなかったのです。わかっている人にはなんでもないことでしょうが、これがわかって、とても気持ちがスカッとしたのを、記憶しています。最近のことです。
