I sent an e-mail to my host mother, Judy, yesterday. Because I wrote to her for the first time in a month, I was kind of rusty! Much to my surprise, however, the more I used English, the more elated I was!
Below is the e-mail I sent. Please just try to imagine what kind of operation I had!

Hi Judy,After all, you have only to use English if you want to improve your English skills.
I left the hospital last week, and then just started working yesterday.
Though it took seven hours for doctors to perform the operation and the cut needed 20 stitches, it was quite successful. My thyroid was removed completely, so hormones of thyroid and parathyroids must be taken in by taking medicines after every meal for the rest of my life. That could be a hassle, but I have to do it in exchange for my life.
While in hospital, I thought of various things -- my family, my job, health, friends, and, of course, you.
Thank you for the warm words you've given me. Now I am a convalescent and have the courage to live more!
Best regards,
