犬の十戒の映画が今日、ロードショー初日を迎えた。
1956年の米映画「十戒」は強烈に私の記憶に残っている。
亡き父と一緒に見た映画だが、その後私はキリスト教の学校に進んでモーゼの十戒を習ったが、更にその後留学先でAustralian-American Clubで何とモーゼ役のチャールトン・ヘストン氏に出会っているからだ。何というミーハー！でも、ホント興奮したんだ～わ～！
「犬と私の約束」とは何と素晴らしいタイトルだろう！
日本人は、ホント、こんな展開のさせた方が実にうまい！

1.My life is likely to last ten to fifteen years.
Any separation from you will be painful for me.

8.Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me.
Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, or I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.
9.Take care of me when I get old; you, too, will grow old.
10.Go with me on difficult journeys.
Never say, "I can't bear to watch it, or, "Let it happen in my absence."
Everything is easier for me if you are there.

詩の内容は愛する動物達と別れても天国の手前に有るという「虹の橋」で再会して、一緒に虹の橋を渡り共に天国に行く！という内容である。
私は、個人的な事だが、オーストラリアの母親が亡くなった夜と翌日の葬儀を思い出した。あの夜、燦然と輝く南十字星を仰ぎ見て、更に幻のブライトスターを見た時、そして翌日雲ひとつない真夏の青空に虹はかけらもなく、幻の一筋が飛行機雲のように・・・あの時、私の豪州の母親は私の心の中に・・・
「虹の橋」つまりThe Rainbowは実に共感が持てる詩である。
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...
あの時、哀しみにくれていた私に幸運の女神の光を与えてくれたのは豪州の亡き母親だったと私を含む一族は本当にそう思った。そして私はあの光が今現在ある私の姿を頑なに護ってくれていると確信している。何故なら、いい事ばかりではなく、嫌な事もあるのだから・・・ 幸運の女神と事前に虹の向こうで話し合っているのは、豪州の亡き母親だと私はいつも思っている。
私はAT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE（虹の橋のたもと）という詩には今一つ共感が持てない。恐らくそれが、愛された事の無い動物達がやはり愛を知らなかった人と共に「虹の橋」を一緒に渡る話だからだと思う。私は常に人を愛し、愛されている人間だから。犬も猫も私は愛する。だが、もし私が虫唾が走るような動物に会ったら・・・ 私は人間として未熟だから、この「もし」のは対応が出来ない！ 実に正直な人間だと私は自らを思う。
