でしたね(^^)。
若い方には、マドンナがカバーした「American Pie（アメリカン・パイ）」の元歌の人と言うことで、ご存じの方が多いかもしれません。またちょっと音楽にお詳しいかたは、あのロバータ・フラックの名曲「やさしく歌って（Killing me softly with his song)」の"He"が彼を指していた事もご存じだと思います。ちなみにこの曲、今やネスカフェのＣＭ曲／テーマ曲みたいになってしまっていて、この曲が大好きな私はちょっと複雑な気持ちです・・(^^;（そうそう、日本版はあの渡辺美里さんなんかもカバーしてましたね(^^;）。
この曲、「ヴィンセント」は彼の1971年11月の全米No.1の大ヒット曲「アメリカン・パイ」に続く、1972年3月のビルボード12位のヒット曲でした。でもドン・マクリーンというと今や「アメリカン・パイ」だけしか掛けてくれない日本のラジオ局からは、まず耳にすることのない曲です。本当に残念・・・。でも私的には、この曲が一番好き。「アメリカン・パイ」のようなセンセーショナルな曲ではなくて、本当にしみじみした名曲だと言えます。
そうそう、近年ではあの「アリー・myラブ 」でのヴォンダ・シェパードのカバーで有名になったみたいで、他にはジョシュ・グローバンもカバーしていますね。なので曲名は知らなくとも、意外とこの曲をご存じの方は多いのかもしれません・・・。
この曲は、あの大画家ヴィンセント・ヴァン・ゴッホに捧げた歌です。晩年は精神を病んでしまった事でも有名なあの大画家ですね。ゴッホの作に「Starry night／星月夜」という名画がありますので、これからインスパイアされた事は間違いないと思います。下記の歌詞を読むとわかりますが、そんな不遇時代の？ゴッホの心境を思いやり、いたわる歌詞を聴くと心が締め付けられるようです・・・。ピンクのフレーズにご注目下さい・・・。
