最近gngoatでマーカーライトの色の意味が話題になりました。小生の英語力では、難解なのですが、概ね以下のような意味らしいです。念のため、原文（Dean Ogle氏の投稿）も掲載させていただきます。
緑：続行運転時（section）
白：続行列車の最後の列車、特別列車(extra)
赤：リバース運転時
Rich and Goats:
Extras and Sections are two entirely different things.
Some definitions from The Consolidated Code of Operating Rules, 1959,
which the company expected me to learn when I hired out way back in 1966:
Time-table: the authority for the movement of regular trains subject
to the rules.
Regular train: a train authorized by a time-table schedule.
Schedule: that part of a time-table which prescribes class,
direction, number and movement for a regular train.
Section: one of two or more trains operating on the same schedule
displaying signals or for which signals are displayed.
Extra train: a train not authorized by a time-table schedule.
If there was an overflow of business and it was necessary to operate
two or more trains on the same schedule, the locomotive of all trains
except the last train displayed green signals (classification
lights). The locomotive of the last train displayed no signals. For
example, passenger travel used to get really heavy around Christmas
and it might be necessary to operate two or more sections of the
Empire Builder.
If only one Empire Builder was to be operated on a given day, the
locomotive would display no signals.
Maybe the local Shriners Club or other organization wanted to charter
a train from Peachpit Junction to East Overshoe. That movement would
not have a schedule. It would be an Extra train; a train not
authorized by a timetable schedule. The locomotive would display
white signals (classification lights).
While this mainly applied to passenger trains, GN did have
regularly-scheduled freight trains and if, for instance, there were
two eastbound freights ready to leave Hillyard at about the same
time, they could have been operated as two sections of the same
schedule; First 492 and Second 492.
