ニクソン・コレクション

　Gngoatからの情報です。ロッキー博物館の写真アーカイブに、「The Ron V. Nixon Collection」があります。NPの写真を中心とした2万枚を超える膨大な記録ですが、「Other Railroad Search」で「グレートノーザン鉄道」を選んでいただけると約500枚の白黒写真が現れます。小生も知らない機関車の写真や、人物写真もあって好ましいものがあります（まだ全部は見ていません）。

I have known about the Ron Nixon collection at the Museum of the Rockies for awhile but only recently decided to see what GN images were available for viewing on the internet. There are a close 500 images. I have looked at every one.

Ron was a great photographer and is known more for his NP photos. What I like about his GN pictures is that it gives me a better idea of what steam locomotives were used at different locations. This is an excellent record of that. Plus, there are many pictures of the early diesels. Ron rode the new 1947 Empire Builder as it toured the GN system. There are lots of pictures of that tour. I highly recommend taking a look at the GN photos in the Nixon collection.

カプラー裂断

　Orerailからの写真です。切断されたカプラー（写真上）とカプラーの無くなったホッパーです。解説文を転載します。

The photo with the broken drawbar got the train crew off the hook,
a lot of rusted metal where the break occured, so the crack has been
there a while and finally let go. Luckily the drawbar stayed attached
to the other car rather than falling underneath, might have been a
derailment otherwise.

(ちょっと脱線） コミック「海街diary １ 蝉時雨のやむ頃」

　久しぶりに吉田秋生のコミックを読みました。「海街diary １　蝉時雨のやむ頃」です。昨年出版されて、早3刷まで増刷されていることからも分かるとおり、じわじわと人気が広がっているようです。

　吉田秋生のコミックは、もう30年前から読んでいます。
　今回の作品では、表題にもなっている「蝉時雨のやむ頃」が素晴らしいと思います。
　詳細は書きませんが、小生の好きなところは、最初（亡くなったお父さんを）「やさしくて、ダメな人だったのよ」と言っていた3姉妹が、いろいろあって、最後に「・・・お父さん、やっぱりやさしい人だったんだよ。ダメだったかもしれないけど、やさしかったんだよ・・・」（涙）となるところでしょうか。
