The Missabe Railroad Historical Society is once again launching a
project to produce custom lettered Walthers HO Scale ore and
taconite cars. In 1999/2000 we produced two sets of Walthers cars
custom lettered for the DM&N Class U17 70ton ore cars, and the T-
Bird captive service taconite cars.
This year, we are soliciting orders to produce four different
schemes. They will all be Walthers "Gold Line" models. As before,
these cars will be un-numbered, and a separate decal sheet of
numbers will be provided with each box of cars. Different this time
is that the cars will come in 4-packs, not 12-packs as before. The
schemes solicited are:
1. A rerun of the DM&N Class U17 ore car, brown car with white
lettering.
2. A rerun of the T-Bird tac car, maroon car with yellow lettering.
3. A new custom run of the black Class U31 (33000 series) cars with
ACF AC brake systems. (See Dan Holbrook's post in Missabe on these
cars)
4. A new custom run of the yellow taconite-style ballast hoppers
(1400 series)
There are some very specific requirements regarding these orders as
follows (please consider these carefully):
• Orders are prepaid, including an estimated shipping charge. Your
check will be deposited and must be honored before your order is
considered.
• Walthers requires a 500-pack minimum (2,000 cars) for each of the
above designs.
• Any style (above) that does not meet minimum order quantities will
be cancelled, and the money will be refunded. Please indicate if you
want to move your order for any cancelled item to another item.
That is, if you ordered two DM&N packs and 2 Black ore car packs,
but we had to cancel the DM&N cars because we couldn't meet minimum
quantities, would you want us to substitute 2 additional Black ore
car packs to fill your order.
• Production time will be up to six months, depending on Walthers'
production schedules.
• You will have to apply the individual number decals.
• Cost is $25 per pack, any style. There are four cars and one decal
sheet per pack.
• Postage is $4.00 shipping for the first pack and $2.00 for each
additional pack. If you want to order a very large quantity, please
contact us for a postage quote.
• To avoid postage charges, local pick-up can be arranged in
Duluth/Superior or Minneapolis/St. Paul. Be sure to indicate on your
order that you intend to pick up your order.
• Order deadline is January 31, 2007.
