　ラムザイヤー論文を批判する人が陥っている大きな錯覚は、非道徳的な売春をラムザイヤー教授が支持していると思い込んでいることです。私娼・公娼制度・慰安婦制度は当時は合法的でしたが、それが道徳的にどうか、ということは問題としていないということです。

売春というビジネスは、現在でも合法の国が沢山ありますが、一大産業であり、明らかに契約があり、経済的なメカニズムが働いていることは明らかです。そのメカニズムを事実に基づいて分析したのがラムザイヤー論文です。

しかし、頭から売春は女性の身体と心の搾取であり、暴力であり、抑圧であって絶対に許せないものである、と信じ込んでいるフェミニスト、人権論者は、売春婦のこと分かっているのか、ということです。売春婦を一方的な被害者、犠牲者と決めつけることは、実は売春婦あるいは慰安婦に対するとんでもない侮辱なのです。

『反日種族主義』の著者の一人李栄薫は李承晩学堂TVの「慰安婦論争―（１）彼女たちは手ぶらで帰ったのだろうか」で、多くの朝鮮人慰安婦が大金を持って帰っていたことを明らかにしています。何も慰安婦に限らず、売春は貧しい女性が通常のレベルより高額の収入を売る一つのビジネスだということは、李栄薫教授のこの説明を聞くまでもなく、多くの普通の人なら知っている常識なのです。売春は貧しい女性がソーシャル・クライマーとして生きる一つの選択手だったのです。

恵まれた地位にいるエリートの研究者、人権論者が高みに立って、慰安婦は奈落に落ちた性奴隷、犠牲者と呼ぶのは、慰安婦に対する侮辱以外のものではないと考えるべきでしょう。

   Ramseyer’s critics think that he supports prostitution. The facts are that unlicensed/licensed prostitution and the comfort women system were legally permitted long ago. Today, prostitution is legal in many countries. Looking beyond morality, one should acknowledge that prostitution is a major industry and contracts clearly exist; it is obvious that the fundamentals of economics are at work. Rather than support prostitution, Ramseyer merely took an interest in delving into what economic mechanisms come into play.

   Ramseyer’s critics are trapped by the notion that prostitutes are “living a life of shame” and that former prostitutes fit the “sex slaves plunged into Hell” stereotype. But this notion is far from the truth.

   In “Comfort Women Controversy: (1) Did they really return home with empty hands?”, Lee Young-hoon, the main author of Anti-Japan Tribalism, points out that not a few of these women built houses back home and even bought land. Prostitution, including being a comfort women, was a means by which poor women could earn more money than by working in a conventional business. In other words, prostitution was the way by which poor women could climb up the social ladder.

   Comfort women as human beings have dignity and their pride. They would not be at all pleased to be “subjects of research” and to be pitied by postwar elites who were raised in a far more favorable environment than they were. So, assuming that the comfort women were merely oppressed victims is rather insulting to them.

   Only the poor know poverty. Only comfort women know what being a comfort woman was all about.
