Among Hidenari Terasaki's poems, sketches and musings about his family is the only known record of Emperor Hirohito's opinions on what started the war. And the documents have added to the historical debate over whether the emperor could have intervened to prevent the fighting.
(In interviews before his death in 1989, Hirohito said he was powerless to stop the conflict.)

In 1981, Mariko, a book by the well-known nonfiction writer Kunio Yanagida, was published in Japan. And, on Aug. 15 that year, the anniversary of the Japanese surrender, NHK (public) Television presented a three-hour docudrama about Miller and the experiences of the Terasaki family.
1981年には柳田邦雄著「マリコ」が発売されベストセラーとなる。（柳田邦男『マリコ』 新潮社 1980年、新潮文庫、1983年）同年8月15日、NHKが寺崎一家について3時間のドキュメンタリー風ドラマ番組を放送、日本中に大反響を呼び起こした。

OSSの資料やVenonaの情報を使えば、こんなことは今は簡単に否定できる。それでも歴史学者たちも論壇人も、そのチャレンジをしようともしない。何故か、彼らの爪の垢までもが自虐史観に犯されているからだ。彼らは気の毒なことに、南京や慰安婦で書物のペイジを埋めたりTV出演したりして生計を立て、愛国保守を名乗り、人気を博し票を取りあるものは政治家に転身したりしながら、腐って腐臭を発しているGHQとの捏造「バーター物語」をあくまでも隠蔽しつつ守り続けるつもりなのだ。彼ら（保守を名乗る者）は新しい資料を活かす術をしらない。
