"Kim Jong Un, who I despise because of the brutality that he has put upon the North Korean people, but unfortunately I think he has been masterful in how he has manipulated perceptions and how he has manipulated and quite frankly duped Mr. Trump," Brennan said in an interview on MSNBC Thursday afternoon.
"I don't see any scenario he is going to give that up quickly, willingly, and so I think what he's trying to do is to, again, present an appearance of accommodation. He is going to put on pause a program that already has developed a nuclear stockpile," Brennan said of North Korea's nuclear capability.
"What he's trying to do is to get sanctions relaxed so that he can help his economy while maintaining that nuclear capability," Brennan said.
"He escalated in order to de-escalate and then to reach a plateau that allows him to retain that nuclear and ballistic missile capability, draw out negotiations over time, and in the meantime be able to get the economic benefits that he has been looking for," Brennan also said.
"The fact that journalists were reportedly only around 500 meters from the explosions is a good indication that these were small blasts. And the amount of dust leads us to believe that they were quite superficial," the official said.

例えば渡辺氏の「面会発言」があったとされる１５年３月３日のメモ。そこには県と学園の打ち合わせが「理事長と首相との面談結果等について報告したい」という学園の申し出で開催されたと記されている。面会がなかったなら、開催理由そのものが虚偽だったことになる。
また同月１５日の市と学園との協議内容を記した文書には「面会を受け、柳瀬唯夫首相秘書官（当時）から資料提出の指示」「理事長と総理との面会時の学園提供資料」と、面会があったことが前提の記述がある。この文書には文部科学省が専門家に意見照会した、とも書かれており、文科省はこの時期に照会したことを認めている。
県庁での渡辺氏の説明では、これらの矛盾は解消しない。台湾で１日、朝日新聞などの取材に応じた中村知事は「県議会や県民の納得を得られるものではない」と批判した。
さらに一般論と前置きして、「民間の会社がうそをついたと明言するなら、処分の対象となる。最高責任者が出てきて、公の場で説明する。それが最低条件だろう」と事実上、加計氏の説明を求めた。今後の県の対応については「（２日の）帰国後に県の担当者から詳細を聞いて決めたい」と述べた
崩れた信頼、県の補助金議論に発展
学部の誘致を後押ししてきた県が反発するのは、巨額の公費を出すからだ。
学部設置には、市が整備費の半額ほどにあたる約９３億円を学園に補助する。県は覚書に基づき市を支援。１７年度から３年間で市に約３１億円を補助する。すでに約１４億円が支払われた。

Trump will want to be able to use the American right’s language of victory — terms such as “complete verifiable irreversible denuclearization” — whether they are fully embraced by both sides or not. He will not concern himself with the fine print.
Kim also wants to raise his international stature. He wants quick sanctions relief, foreign aid, and a reduction of America’s threat posture. Perhaps most of all, he wants to remain in power.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in wants to eliminate the threat of devastating war that has seemed so palpable since Trump took office, and take advantage of the economic and political benefits that would go with a formal easing of tensions.
China wants to push American power away from its borders without encouraging, or midwifing, a “unified” Korea allied with the West.
There is enough overlap in those goals to achieve some sort of deal. But here is what it won’t accomplish, the goal that we hear the most about: The elimination of North Korea’s nuclear arsenal.

『週刊文春』（6月7日号）のタイトル「嘘つきは安倍晋三の始まり」、これはひどすぎる。
「文春」らしくない。エスプリもなければ皮肉も効いていない。
ぼくだって、こんなタイトルは付けない。

今日文藝春秋社の元最高幹部に聞いたが、文春社内は路線対立や人間関係の泥沼化で末期状態、解体して有志で出直すしかないということだ。よく分かる。月刊文藝春秋など読む記事がない。

ROK Defense Minister Song's remarks at #SLD18 are emblematic of a troubling trend of assuming North Korea's good intentions and work backwards from there. That's exactly wrong: strong deals, esp. arms control, are built on skepticism.

Canadians are used to dealing with an unpredictable and occasionally insane neighbor to the south, but Thursday’s announcement that the United States would impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from Canada, Mexico and the European Union was a true friendship dealbreaker. American foreign policy is becoming a study in how to lose friends and alienate people, how to turn ancient allegiances into fraught conflicts for the vaguest of possible motivations.
U.S. callousness and intransigence are hardly new to Canadians or to Canadian policymakers. In 1969, Justin Trudeau’s father, Pierre, famously declared in a speech to the Washington Press Club that living next to the United States was “like sleeping with an elephant.” He did not mention, because he didn’t need to, that the elephant he was thinking of wasn’t the smart kind, the kind that has conversations and celebrates births and buries its dead. Trump isn’t known for having friends, and he obsesses over who his enemies might be. He creates enemies so that he has a way to define himself. That process has been extended from his personal life to the U.S. political system and, from there, to the international order. His base wants more enemies. And I guess they’ll take them where they can find them. It’s hard to imagine how you work yourself up to hate Canadians, but we’re living in times of great innovation.
