最終日、日没のため、翌日の朝8時から、17番、18番の2ホール、18番をバーデイとして19アンダー、ポールケーシー16アンダー（2位）を逆転、3差をつけて、マークオメーラの5勝と並んだ。50歳直前のミケルソン、続き過ぎの試合に勝る体力で、寒い日のぺブルビーチを完全に征服した。驚くべきこの勝利は、マスターズ優勝候補にもう一人、期しておくべきミケルソンが生きていた。なんと力強い、大学の後輩で、今、力を最大に伸ばしてきたポールケーシーを逆転するパワーは、改めて、兜をぬいた。
