Hi Ken:
It's been too long since we have been together to share good conversation
and friendship. I've missed you.
Also, it was disappointing that you were unable to travel to the USA for a visit.
Truthfully, I miss Japan and my friends there, so, one of these days, I would like to return.
Maybe I can do so in conjunction with my upcoming book which will be available here in the US
around Christmas time or maybe a little earlier. I'll let you know when I have more detailed information.
The book is entitled, "The Silent Saboteurs", and it's a story of our oral spirochetes,
their propensity to enter the bloodstream in cases of advanced periodontal disease plus
their ability to evade the immune response once gaining access to our bodily tissues.
We propose a theory of how these same spirochetes can be phagocytosed by immune cells and
thereafter exert their own damaging effects by producing bacterially-stimulated proteins
which weaken our immune system to other co-existant problems. We also cite pertinent literature
to support the rationale of this theory. It's about 320 pages in length and should be very
interesting for both dentists, physicians and also the interested lay individual.
Please tell Akio about it as I'm certain, he will find it interesting and also a good book,
especially for graduate students within many different specialties of dentistry.
It took about 8 months of work every day to complete this book. Although it was a lot of work,
I enjoyed the effort very much as it gave me a real feeling of productivity, something I've really
missed since my full retirement 3 years ago.
As you probably heard, I suffered a bout with cancer one year ago as one of my skin cancers gave rise
to a metastatic carcinoma which found its way to a lymph node in my neck. The mass was excised successfully,
and thusfar, I have had no problem since that time. I remain under observation,
but things look very good at this point. I have been very lucky!
My grandaughter, Angela, is now 8 years old and is not only very beautiful, she is also
extremely bright and reads constantly. She is a true treasure. My other grandchildren,
now 5, 3 and 2 are also nice and healthy, but I must say that I don't have nearly as much contact
with them and accordingly, am not nearly as close with them as I am to Angela.
Please write and let me know if we might be able to get together if I were to plan a trip to Japan.
Would you like to travel to some nice destination somewhere?
If so, please let me know as I might be interested.
Say "hello" to Hiro and to Masako. If Hiro has new contact information, please forward it to me.
Best wishes as always.
Dave
