Fish Eggs in Japanese Cuisine

2007-02-01 15:47:28 | 真地球史
Few foreigners may try Tarako ( egg of codfish ) during their stay in Japan. This egg is quite popular among Japanese because it goes with Japanese rice quite well and various ways are possible to enjoy the taste. When baked, the smell is so nice that our appetite increases to the maximum level ! Also Tarako maches Otyaduke( rice with hot tea), so many Japanese restaurants add it to menus. Karashi Mentaiko ( musturd tasted tarako ) is also quite popular because musturd improves the reservation of food as well as it stimulates our appetite. Japanese popular foods seem to have the similar conditions for their attractions.

The reason I especially recommend Izu for foreign visitors is because it is the very place most Japanese feel at home. That means Izu has every aspect of Japanese traditional culture. Of course you can enjoy hot springs evry place here. Also fresh raw fish and vegetables are atraction of Izu. As once, Japanese famous writer Yasunari Kawabata wrote that All Izu peninsla itself is a park. This means you can enjoy beautiful scenery of seas, mountains, rivers, as well as many beautiful parks. Also Izu-Kogen is the city called a museum city. You should visit here and enjoy the arts from all over the world The train, Izukyu is also my favorite commute. You will have to wait 20 - 40 minutes for next train, though I enjoy the time watching beautiful flowers and trees in the station. The living way here is SLOW LIFE itself , I conclude.

After I entered the garden too many crows were flying over the pond and crying. The hostess of the tea house explained, " I'm sorry, we have had
them around here." In this comment, she implied that the crying of crows
disturb the beauty and quietness of this garden. Crows were also considered the birds that brings unluck in Japan. So I have found no wakas
related to them in Kokinsyu. But I dare to read haiku on them. For I sincerely wish the end of the old society and desire the new born of the different era that is ruled by true happiness and peace. In other words,
the world ruled by something beyond us. With hope for real New Year, I read my haiku to this garden at the end of days of 2005.

AsWikipedia refers, water and island are important factors in Japanese Garden. This may have come from customs in Heian period, that Kizoku―celebrated noble class―like to gether to sing poems called Waka. And they needed the garden to feel nature vividly. Kokinsyu is the anthology of these wakes they made. The former owner of Rikugien, Yoshiyasu Yanagisawa

seemed to have loved this anthology, and designed from the famous wakes of Kokinsyu. The two mountain on the island in middle of the pond, were named Imose-yama after the following waka.

流れては 妹背の山のなかに 落つるよしのの河のよしや 世の中 (unknown)

The famous Yoshino river eventually falls down into Imose-mountains ,

This world of us , everything will come back to the same conclusion.

A Man and a Woman.

The Answer is this ! A set of Mattya and Wagashi.
If you are a foreigner, I strongly recommend this to try while you are
in Japan. Because this set quite represents Japanese culture,I think.
Mattya itself was considered as a kind of medicine in ancient Japan.
And original one tastes too bitter, so this mattya is arranged for
modern Japanese to taste easier by softening. Wagashi is also a unique
type of sweets around the world. Not only the soft sweetness but also
the appearance of it makes us feel the change of seasons.

After you enter Rikugien, you will find many tea houses there.
It is very Japanese custom, to drink tea after walking around the garden.
Tya-mise, you will find relaxed time watching the garden listening to the sound of nature. This is the only tea house where you can order food.
So, ask you a question. Here, in this tea house, they serve only one menu. What is it ?

About 5 - 10 minutes walk from JR Sugamo st. you can enter the different dimention from modern Japan.Rikugien, established in Edo Era by lord of
Kawagoe, shows the typical beauty of Japanese traditional garden.
Yoshiyasu Yanagisawa, the former owner of this garden, was quite through with Japanese Traditional literature, especially in Heian period.
This garden is a kind of symblolism of the world of Waka- Japanese traditional style of poem.
