Say NO to newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership

2008-09-29 05:40:32 | メディア(知るための手段のあり方)
It is clear that running the newspaper and the television by same company is not a worst idea for democracy. In Japan which has big 5 media which run the newspaper and the television, newspaper companies' adhesion with the government and the broadcast companies' adhesion with the government becomes on the same ship, so big 5 media cannot criticize the government. Nevertheless, it is moving in the direction where this running as well is admitted in South Korea now. It is told, "Easing 'Prohibition of running as well of the newspaper and broadcasting' regulated is advanced from deregulation to the communication and the broadcasting field and the levels of activation of the investment" (http://www.chosunonline.com/article/20080905000051) in the Korean daily report.

South Korea government explain that the policy to allow this running as well is to catch up with worldwide media enterprise. But it is only in Japan that has been admitting running the newspaper and the television as well in the advanced country. A severe limitation hangs also even in the United States of the media large country.

I hope citizen in Korea should learn Japanese experience.

For instance when the newspaper companies was united to keep the system of delivering to home of the newspaper which was put in question by the Fair Trade Commission, the newspaper companies beg the ruling Liberal-Democratic Party, but the TV stations did not criticize the system of delivering to home and newspaper companies' begging to the government. As a result, the government grasped the weakness of the newspaper companies.

It was reported that the national budget of digitalization of broadcast budget in fiscal year 2009 will be 60 billion yen. The newspaper doesn't criticize whether the digitalization of broadcast is really necessary or it is proper to invest such budget. As a result, the government grasped the weakness of the broadcast companies.

It is clear that the Liberal-Democratic Party political power has been maintained for a long term by the newspaper and the television's being not able to criticize each other, and becoming a community held together by fate with the government.

The movement of running the newspaper and the television by same company this South Korea is clear.

The broadcast companies comparatively has the monitoring function against government while the newspaper companies with the tradition are allies of conservative government and big companies. Some of public broadcasting of the televisions are going to be bought by the conservative newspaper if cross ownership of newspaper and TV station is admitted.

It is clear that the democracy that in South Korea is blown off at a dash when cross ownership of newspaper and TV station is admitted.

I would like to warn my neighbors that running the newspaper and the television by same company is the worst media strategies for democracy.
