Koreanische Trostfrauen-Selbsthilfegruppen wurden als Zufluchtsort behandelt, unterstützt durch das Prestige ehemaliger Trostfrauen, die irgendwie als Nationalheldinnen angesehen wurden.
Sie haben einen erheblichen Einfluss auf die öffentliche Meinung.
Ein hochrangiger Beamter des südkoreanischen Außenministeriums sagt, sie hätten „de facto ein Vetorecht über die Diplomatie zwischen Japan und Südkorea“ (ein hochrangiger Beamter des südkoreanischen Außenministeriums).
