「米国に軍事協力をすれば、日本の安全保障にも参加してくれると希望的観測を抱く人もいるようだけど、それは甘い。米国は自分の国のためにしか軍隊を動かしません。どこの国もそうです。さらに米国は本格的な軍事行動に連邦議会の承認が必要で、大統領制下では議会が政府の言うことを聞くとは限らない。日本の国会承認とは全く違うものです」
「憲法とは、そのときたまたま首相になった人の考えで、やたら動かしてはいけない。そのための憲法です。だから、なかなか変えにくくしているのです。安倍首相は今のサミット（先進７カ国首脳会議、ドイツ）で『人権、民主主義、法の支配を守る』とおっしゃったけど、法の支配を守るなら、今の憲法を守るべきです。自分で破っておいて『守る』とは。言ってることと、やってることが違います」
「人の生き方、考え方はそれぞれだから、それを公平に認めようというのが今の日本国憲法です。しかし残念ながら、与党にはその考え方自体が気に入らないという方々がいらっしゃるようです。だから憲法を変えて、人々に同じ考えをしてもらおうとするのは困ります。また戦争をしないといけなくなるので」
―人の心を縛るような改正もあり得るということですか。
「人の内面を縛るのは一種の革命信仰です。制度を変えれば人民の精神を革新できる、皆が『正しい人』になるという信仰は、実はどの時代にもどの国にもあります。マルクス主義もフランス革命時のジャコバン独裁も、ナチズムもファシズムもそうでした。そんなに珍しくなくて、特にエリートの中に結構いるんですよ」
―ホルムズ海峡の機雷掃海は個別的自衛権で対処できる、という主張もあります。
「あり得ます。（４日の衆院憲法）審査会でそう発言した小林節先生（慶応大名誉教授）に対し、北側一雄さん（公明党副代表）が『国際法はそういう使い方はしない』とおっしゃっていたけど、これは日本国憲法の問題です。日本の憲法で個別的自衛権だと考えられているものだけが認められる、という話。日本を防衛している米国艦船が外国から襲撃を受け、日本が反撃するのは当然ありですが、それを『集団的自衛権だ』と言う人が『だから使えるように』という議論は全く説得力がありません」

If you read about the declining businesses in Shin-Okubo, you may hear the rise of kenkan (a hatred of things Korean) as one the reasons. However, when this same information was reported to Korean Internet users, they offered some other theories for the decline.
“Really? Is the problem only kenkan? When people study abroad in Tokyo, they will understand. There was an issue of labor exploitation carried out by Shin-Okubo’s Korean managers. They will understand that the enemy of Koreans is other Koreans.”
“I live close to Shin-Okubo, but there aren’t many kenkan demonstrations here. The restaurants closed because they are expensive and not that delicious. This kenkan problem is just an excuse.”

On April 9th, 1948, a month before Israel declared independence, just over one hundred residents of Deir Yassin were massacred by members of two militant Zionist groups - Lehi and Irgun - as part of an effort to cleanse the area of its Arab population. The next day, Albert Einstein wrote the following passionate letter to Shepard Rifkin, a New York-based representative of Lehi who had recently written to Einstein in the hope of garnering some high-profile support for the group's efforts. His belief that Einstein - a man who publicly backed the creation of a Jewish homeland in the British Mandate of Palestine, but by different means - would agree to such a suggestion was clearly misplaced.

While reported incidents of non-deadly violence perpetrated against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people significantly dropped in 2014, reported homicides against the community increased by 11 percent, with transgender women and people of color disproportionately affected, according to a new report.
The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) on Tuesday published its annual report, which examines reported incidents of anti-LGBT violence in the United States. The report is based on 2014 data compiled from 16 of its member programs operating in 14 states.
The NCAVP found that the number of reported non-deadly acts of violence plummeted from 2,001 cases in 2013 to 1,359 in 2014 — a 32 percent decrease.
The coalition, however, stressed that the drop only represents a change in the number of cases reported, and doesn’t necessarily mean that non-deadly anti-LGBT violence is down.
Indeed, the NCAVP report shows that reported homicides within the LGBT community are on the rise. Member programs documented 18 cases of murder in 2013 and 20 in 2014, representing an 11 percent increase.
Among those 20 LGBT murder victims, 16 were African-American or Latino, and 11 were transgender women, underscoring a troubling trend that the coalition has been noting for years, according to Osman Ahmed, research and education coordinator at NCAVP.
