A Brasilian sate-run petroleum company, Petroleo Brasileiro S.A., has reached an agreement to purchase Nansei Petroleum( based on Nishihara-cho, Okinawa Prefecture), an affiliated company of U.S. Exxon Mobile Corporation.After acquiring the company, Petroleo will build a new facility with an up-to-date equipment in Japan,investing about 100 billion yen.It intends to refine the crude oil from Brasil into petroleum products such as gasolin in Japan,and export them to Asian countries including China. Against the backdrop that crude oil prices have continued increasing,the petroleum industry's realignment in Japan likely will proceed by the initiative of the petroleum companies in the oil-producing countries.
