The LDP has upgraded its lobbying activity to various countries to be ready for listing of the Sado Island gold mines (Niigata Pref.) as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site this year.
The government initially aimed its listing last year. However, the recommendation letter submitted in February two years ago was incompleted, it therefore failed.
In order for "2nd time's a charm," the LDP also intends to work out on member countries of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee, which will conduct registration screening, and support that.

As of May 10, the intra-party "Sado Island Gold Mine World Heritage Listing Realization Project Team"（PT, correct name in English is unknown）requested 16 embassies in Japan for cooperation for the listing via friendly lawmakers league.
They already held meetings with ambassadors of Rwanda, Italy, Belgium, etc.
They allegedly received replies from ambassador of each country such as "I will convey it to the home country."

It's forecasted that the Sado gold mines will be screened for listing at a committee conference in India in July of this year.
The 21 member countries will talk about this based on the recommendation of the advisory body.
LH lawmaker Keiichiro Tachibana (LDP), chairperson of the PT, said in a coverage with The Sankei Shimbun that "It's important to show Japan's enthusiasm to the committee member countries. Through our activities, we hope to lead the site to listing on UNESCO WCH."

Screening by the World Heritage Committee is usually fixed unanimously voting.
The focal point will be S. Korea serving as a committee country.
At the time of the submission of the recommendation letter in February two years ago, S. Korea was displeased saying that "forced labor" on the Korean peninsula natives and so on during the war was taken place at the Sado gold mines, and demanded to withdraw the application.

However, taking advantage of an inaugulation of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration in May two years ago, which has been positive to improve Japan-S. Korea relations, signs of change emerged.
In last April, S. Korean ambassador to Japan Yun Duk-min showed recognition that "it's not true that (S. Korea) absolutely opposes" to the listing, while requesting consideration to the contents of the exibition of the Sado gold mines, saying that "It has a negative history too."

The term of office of committee member countries is four years, and re-election is also done.
It has been pointed out that, if China becomes a committee member in the upcoming election, it may oppose the registration.
One PT member emphasized that "We can't afford to fail this time. We have no choice but to register it now."
The listing of the Sado gold mines has also been a theme advocated by intra-party conservatives including (late) former PM Shinzo Abe.
I's even worriness in the LDP that, if registration is postponed again, "it could lead to defection of conservatives" (a mid-ranking lawmaker).

Listing of the "gold mins on the Sado Island" on UNESCO WHC.
"Gold mines on the Sado Island" consists of two former mining sites -- "Aikawa-Tsurushi gold and silver mine" & "Nishimikawa placer gold mine."
In the 17th century, it produced over 400 kg gold.
It was allegedly the world largest class, and an important fund source of the Edo Shorgunate.

Initially, the government aimed the listing in 2023, and submitted the letter of recommendation in Feb. 2022.
However, the UNESCO side judged that the description of the headrace of the "Nishimikawa sand gold mine" was inadequate.
The government was therefore forced to re-submit it -- in Sept. 2022, it submitted a provisional edition, and the formal edition in Jan. 2023.
