The Ministry of Defense's FY2024 budget request -- which has earmarked a record-high \7.7385 trillion, is the 2nd year of the Defense Buildup Plan, which calls for a drastic upgrade of defense capabilities -- is a significant increase from the original budget for FY2023 of \6,821.9 billion.
It intends to allocate \379.7 billion to construct two new "Aegis-equipped vessels," which will be newly construct in order to replace the ground-based interception system "Aegis Ashore," and construction will be kicked off in FY2024.
\75 billion was earmarked for the joint development of a new interceptor missile to deal with hypersonic weapons, which was agreed at the U.S.-Japan summit meeting in mid-August.
