It's the first time that the U.S. has dispatched its own nuclear disablement team to S. Korea and publicly disclosed the fact to have conducted joint drills with S. Korean forces.

On April 29, according to the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS, a Pentagon media service), U.S. Army Nuclear Disablement Teams (NDT) conducted joint drills with S. Korea's Nuclear Characterization Teams (NCT) from March 20 to 24.
Disablement means measures to prevent a nuclear weapon from detonating, such as by removing the detonator.

The Pentagon introduced the NDT that "Disable nuclear and radiological weapons of mass destruction (WMD) infrastructure and components, denying adversary capabilities and facilitating subsequent WMD removal operations."
It belongs to CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives) Command, which is called the "20th CBRNE Command," and stationing at the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) in US-MD, and there are only three teams in the whole U.S. Forces.

The NCT allegedly belongs to the CBRDC (Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense Command), which is under direct control of S. Korean ministry of national defense, and performs missions similar to the NDT.
The military authority has never officially confirmed the unit's existence.
The training dates were the period, when the Freedom Shield joint exercises (March 13-23) and the Ssangyong exercise (March 20-April 3) were conducted. So, it seems that the nuclear disablement teams of the two countries conducted joint drills on the occasion of U.S.-S. Korea joint exercises.
