関係代名詞が含まれる文の中に「I think」「I hope」「I know」「I believe」「I see」「I say」「I expect」といったフレーズが組み込まれている場合があります（「I」の部分は「S/He」「They」「We」「Nancy」「Tom」「teachers」「scientists」など、さまざまな名詞になります）。
例▷ The wrestler is Lucy's mother, who I think will win the game.
そのレスラーはルーシーの母親で、私が思うに彼女は試合に勝つでしょう。
この文では「I think」が「who will win the game」という関係代名詞節に挿入されています。
こうしたものを「連鎖関係詞節」または「連鎖関係代名詞節」と呼びます。
見かけが複雑なので一瞬戸惑いますが、「I think」などの部分を「 」（ ）／／などで囲って見るとわかりやすくなります。
The wrestler is Lucy's mother, who （I think） will win the game.
つまり、
「The wrestler is Lucy's mother.」と「I think she will win the game.」を一つにしたものだということです。
「今日の例文」でも「連鎖関係詞節」が使われています。
