【こぼす、落とす、落ちる、滑る、転ぶ】
I spilled the full cup of coffee. ------------> カップにいっぱい入っているコーヒーをこぼした
The eraser fell down. ----------> 黒板消しが落ちた
I dropped the eraser. -----------> わたしは黒板消しを落とした
I slipped and fell on the icy sidewalk. -------------> 私は凍っている歩道で滑って転んだ
I tripped on my untied shoelace. ---------> ほどけた靴紐につまずいた（靴ひもを踏んでつまずいた）
tripは動詞では「つまずく」名詞では「旅」。 「旅をする」と動詞として使いたいときはtravelを使う
trip on / trip-over------------> ～につまずく

どうしてネコ？ってことになりますが、西洋ではネコは9つも命を持ちなかなか死なないと言われているらしいです。そんなネコでも好奇心で狭い所に挟まって死んでしまうこともある、というようなことわざの由来があるようです
また、昔から好奇心は悪徳とされているのでこのような諺が産まれたようです
【症状】
My illness symptoms are sore throat ,itchy eye, and runny nose. ----------> 私の病気の症状は喉の痛み、目のかゆみと鼻水です
My back itches. -------------> 私の背中はかゆい
itchは動詞で「かゆい」名詞で「かゆみ」なので動詞で使うときは 体の場所+itch(es)
My back is itching. -----------> 私の背中はかゆい、私の背中はむずむずする
Please scratch my back. ----------------> 私の背中をかいて（こすって）ください
If you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours. -------------> （諺）もしあなたが私の背中を掻いてくれたら、私もあなたの背中を掻いてあげる（困った時はお互い様）
【風】
Against the wind / headwind ----------> 向い風 ・逆風
with the wind ---------------> (直訳すると、一緒の風）追い風
tailwind ----------> 追い風
From Tokyo to LA because of a headwind our flight was longer than usual. --------------> 東京からロスへは向かい風なので私たちのフライトは通常より長かった
On the other hand, flying back to Tokyo there was a tailwind, our flight was two hours shorter.----------------> 一方、東京への帰りの飛行では追い風だったので、フライトは2時間短かったです
I like walking with the wind. ----------------->わたしは風と一緒に歩くのが好きです（この風は追い風）

【副詞節のif, when, before, afterの時制】
（前週のブログに動画があり、詳しくありますので参照してください。日本語訳通りに英語にすると時制で間違えやすくなりますので注意が必要です。
if, when, before, afterに続く文は普段のこと→現在形。未来の事→現在形。過去の事→過去形 その前か後の節はその時制のまま
例）Tomorrow(未来のこと）+if I go to Tokyo (ifの後は現在）+I will call my friend(未来形）
Tomorrow if I go to Tokyo, I will call my friend. ---------------> 明日、もし東京へ行くならわたしは友人に電話します
Next week, before I go to the mountain, I’ll check the weather report. -----------> 来週、山へ行く前に天気予報をチェックします
Yesterday, before I met my friend, I made a reservation. ---------------> 昨日、友人に会う前、私は予約しました
Yesterday, before I met my friend, I reserved a table. -------------->昨日、友人に会う前、私はテーブルを予約しました(reserveは他動詞なので目的語が続くため reserved a tableとなる）

Last weekend, my husband and I went to see a "photo exhibition" called "Neko-nist, Inu-nist" at the City Gallery. I think it means "cat person, dog person". There were at least 1,000 photos of cats and dogs taken by their owners. The owners submitted their pet's picture to the event. The entrance fee was 1,000 yen. It was way too expensive. My husband has a hadicap card, so he and I were able to enter for free. If we had had to pay, we wouldn’t have enjoyed it at all.
先週、夫と私はシティギャラリーへ「ねこにすと、いぬにすと」という『写真展』を見に行きました。「ねこにすと、いぬにすと」は愛猫家、愛犬家という意味だと思います。飼い主さんが撮った犬と猫の写真が1000枚以上ありました。飼い主さんがそのイベントにペットの写真を提出したものでした。入場料が千円でした。それはいささか高すぎます。夫は身障者手帳を持っているため、夫と私は無料で入場できました。もし私たちがお金を払わなければならなかったとしたら、全くその写真展を楽しめなかったでしょう
