【barely: 辛うじて～する、ぎりぎり、ほとんど～ない】
I was barely in time to / for ～ ----------> ギリギリ～に間に合った
He could barely walk. --------> 彼は辛うじて歩くことができた（彼はほとんど歩くことができなかった）
When I reached this summit it was so cold that I could barely feel my fingers.---------->この頂上へ着いたとき指の感覚がほとんどないほど寒かった (so～that.... = ........するくらいとても～だ）
This kanji is so old that most Japanese can barely read it. ----------->この漢字はとても古いので ほとんどの日本人はほとんど読めない
Her daughter lived in America for 10 years so when we talked at the party, her English was so fast that I can barely understand. --------> 彼女の娘さんはアメリカに10年間住んでいたので私たちがパーティで話をしたとき、彼女の英語は速すぎて私はほとんど理解できなかった
【enough： 十分な】
We have just very enough milk to make omelet. ---------> オムレツを作るためにちょうど十分な量のミルクがあります
【fade: 色などが薄くなる】
Her jeans faded. ---------> 彼女のジーンズは色あせた
Fade in--------> (画面が）次第に明るくなる。（音声が）次第に大きくなる
Fade out ---------> (画面が）次第に暗くなる。（音声が）次第に小さくなる
【だんだん、ますます】
＊だんだん～になる、と言いたいときは比較級を使う。get +形容詞比較級 and 形容詞比較級（形容詞が2音節以上の時はmore and more +形容詞）
It’s getting warmer and warmer. --------> だんだん暖かくなっています
Your daughter is getting more and more beautiful. --------> あなたの娘さんはますます美しくなっている
This novel is getting more and more interesting. ---------> この小説はだんだん面白くなっている
It might/ may be my imagination it feels like my backpack is getting heavier and heavier. ----------> 私の想像かもしれませんが私のリュックサックはだんだん重くなっている気がします

Due to / because of her injury it’s unlikely that she will win the competition. / she is unlikely to win the competition. --------> 彼女の怪我のせいで彼女は試合で勝てそうもない
It’s unlikely to snow tonight./ that it’ll snow tonight.---------> 今晩は雪になりそうにない
天気と状況の時は形式主語にする
Before our departure, it’s unlikely that we will have enough time to eat. ---------> 私たちの出発の前に食べるために十分な時間はなさそうだ
Because you took so long to get ready, it’s unlikely that we will have enough time to eat before our departure. --------> 準備に大変時間がかかったので出発前に食べるための十分な時間はなさそうです
We are unlikely to have enough time to eat. ----------> 私たちは食べるための十分な時間がなさそうだ
Because she lived in America over 10 years it’s likely that she can speak English very well./ Because she lived in America over 10 years she is likely to be able to speak English very well. ---------> 彼女はアメリカに10年以上住んでいたので英語を話すのがとても上手そうです
【I can tell ：（五感で）分かる】
I could tell by her voice that she was pretending to be sick. ---------> 彼女の声（の様子）で彼女が病気の振りをしていると分かった
I could tell by the way she responded that she was asleep during our meeting. ---------> 彼女の返答で会議中に彼女が眠っていたと分かった
I can’t tell wheather or not what this magazine said it's truth. ----------> この雑誌が本当のことを言っているかどうか分からない
I can tell by the cry of lark that spring has come.--------> ひばりの鳴き声で春が来たことがわかる。
I can tell by his action what my husband is looking for.----------> 夫の行動で彼が何を探しているかわかる。
