クニヨシは、戦争の間、黙ったままでいる事が出来ました、そして彼を咎める人は誰も
いなかったでしょう；しかし彼は、彼が信じている側の為に発言することを選びました。
彼にとって民主主義の根本を信じることは、彼が完全に反対している政府への考えられる
忠誠心よりも重いものでした。

クニヨシは、オー・ダブリュー・アイ (OWI, Office of War Information)の為にポスターを
描きました、戦争によって制作された最も強烈なものの中に含まれていました。　1942年に
彼は、ユナイテッド・チャイナ・リリーフの援助のためにダウンタウン・ギャラリーで回顧展
を開きました。　彼は、パール・ハーバーの前より多くの演説をしました。　
彼はボランティアで日本への放送を、それも二回しました、それを彼自身の名前でする事を
主張しました。

Kuniyoshi could have remained silent during the war and no one could have
blamed him; but he chose to speak out for the side in which he believed. To him
belief in the democratic cause outweighed any conceivable loyalty to a govern-
ment to which he was utterly opposed. He drew posters for the OWI, including
some of the most powerful produced by the war. In 1942 he held a retrospective
exhibition at the Downtown Gallery for the benefit of United China Relief. He
made more speeches after Pearl Harbor than before. He volunteered to broad-
cast to Japan, and did so twice, insisting on doing it in his own name.
