Jim, sorry, but you completely miss the point.

1) You are mislead to believe that Debito is about the only one out there trying to change it for us because you can’t read Japanese. That is very Kawaiso.

2)Even after I offered the help, you or Debito refused to change it for us, especially for the readers on Debito org who complained of Hellow gaijin san. That’s telling.

3) Debito’s blog does more harm than good, especially for people who can’t read Japanese . because it is based on ignorance, lies, exaggerations, hatred, the blocking of critical and even helpful comments as Debito wishes. I think I’ve shown sufficient enough examples here and on Mike’s blog, but if you want more, I’d be glad to help you.

I welcome constructive criticisms on my blog, I’ll invite all of Debito followers and others to my blog.

I’ve come here via Today’s post on Debito org.
Since Debito block a comment as he wishes, I’ll write here.

As for the main topic, I think level 3 sums up nicely.

“Today’s rant (about his feelings on Mike Guest) surely gets into the Top 5 of Absolutely Nothing to Do With Human Rights in Japan. Its length (compared to legitimate semi-infomational posts about discrimination) is telling. It shows what debito really cares about, what really motivates him to do research and even investigate someone and use an audio recorder, just like a real journalist. Do I even have to spell out his true motivation? Didn’t think so.
Proving what this website is all about.”

“Why are there so many foreigners living in Japan who want it to stay that way? Are these people masochists or something?”

i just find the whole thing ridiculous..
if these people dont like your methods -fine..why dont they do things in a different way to improve
foreigners rights? but thats obviously too much hassle for them,so what do they do?
set up a separate website just to rubbish you, and this guy writes this pathetic

Why do they keep covering up the fact that there are non-Japanese and Japanese who work to improve situations for us. I often cites the links on my blog that are helpful for foreigners living in Japan.

The point is when a foreigners is really in trouble, s/he is least likely to ask Debito for help but ask someone else.
It is kawaiso for foreigners who can’t read Japanese are misled to believe that “Debito is about the only one out there trying to change it for us.” by blocking critical and even helpful comments by Debito.

This is one of reasons I object to his blog, which lead me to another point.

Adam(#11) does not seem to understand the problem.

The problem is not that Debito’s blog is helpful, if you don’t like his tactics, all you have to do is to set up another website.

Debito tactics is not just inefficient but misleading, fear-mongering and hate-mongering.

To illustrate, let’s take Tacit blue, a young ardent supporter of Debito who has never come to Japan, who has no knowledge of Japanese.

He says;

.”…..I got it in my head to move to Japan….. Though I’ve never lived in Japan and thus cannot speak about it, I feel it would be good to inject that society with a little sympathy. It feels like the “gaijin” are fighting a tough battle for rights without the domestic reinforcements they sorely desire, all because “it doesn’t affect me”.

And finally

“Heck, never mind Japan, I’m emigrating to Canada.”
.debito.org/?p=7697#comment-208950

Now I don’t give shit whether someone go to Japan or not,

But note his blog has an effect of a young guy like him wanting to inject Japan with a little sympathy and finally deciding not not come to Japan.

Readership should ask why he has dehumanized notion of Japan and the Japanese people to such an extent that he finally decided not to come to Japan though reading Debito org.

Of course, only masochists would come to Japan and stay here because according to the posts Debito promoted, Japan condones the murder of foreigners by its own citizens, and there are plenty of “reasons” not to visit Japan.

I wonder why the lies, exaggerations, hatred, and the blocking of critical, even helpful comments will help the foreigners in Japan.

Again I can’t help but conclude that his blog is fueling fear and hatred against Japan and the Japanese.

And I appreciate the warnings from Tepido org. so that young kids won’t be misled.

And I welcome the comments on my blog from the supporters of Debito.

I suspect there are housing discriminations in Japan as in other nations;it is evident from the fact that there are some court cases against housing discrimination.

Specifically what do you think Debito did “to change for us?” Very little indeed, no?

In other cases like “Japanese only” shops in the red districts, he posted the photos, Actually few people care except for some frequenters and few Japanese would notice the ads.

In cases like “Japanese customers only” hotels, they posted the link to a hotel but did nothing. No?
I actually called some hotels and asked them their intention. In all of the cases I dealt with, they say they mean they can speak only Japanese. When I pointed out if that was the case, it would be misleading to post “no foreigners”, they either changed the sign or deleted it. It is as easy as that.

What do I get for trying to help them? “Douche bag, fuck you for gaijinizing me” are the answers I got from a Debito’s follower and Debito .

Come to think of it. Mark in yayoi complained of racial profiling at Yayoi.
He was offered to change the situation by asking the police and ward office but he evaded it and didn’t respond. (I don’t know what happened afterwards, and I am not sure why Mark did’t respond)

http://www.occidentalism.org/?p=908.

Do you think that they are trying to “change it for us” or are they just whining for the sake of whining in addition to the lies, exaggerations, hatred, and the blocking of the critical, even helpful comments as Debito wishes?

Let’s take Idubor’s case for instance.

He blocked the comments which were against Idubor and for the victim and supported him, while revealing the victim’s name on the internet against her privacy.
(don’t get me wrong, I am not saying someone should not support the accused.)

http://globalvoicesonline.org/2008/01/31/japan-letters-from-the-prision/

After his conviction, Debito promised that

“Unfortunately, I just heard the High Court upheld his sentence on April 23, shaving a mere 80 days off his incarceration, with two years plus left to serve. I’ll write more on this later”
debito.org/?p=1652

Have we heard his case since then? I don’t think so. And yet he used this case to show how badly NJ are treated.

http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/fl20090324zg.html

In the same article from Japan times, he cited “The way of Japanese justice” to support his thesis.
But contrary to his (mis)reading, the book says:

Page 157
Though more research is needed, it appeared that compared with American counterpart, Japanese prosecutor discriminate less, and less severely against racial and ethnic minorities.

Page 158
Neither RTI study find evidence that foreign suspects and offenders are treated worse than Japanese.

I can cite other examples, but I’ll stop here.

Few people are saying there are no undue discriminations in Japan; There are.
There are Japanese and non-Japanese who want to change the situations for us.
Is Debito’s activism actually helping such as it is?

For my part I can’t help but conclude that his activism does more harm than good.

The current rows with Russia and especially China has been the opportunity hawkish conservatives like this Sakurai, “Ishi-baka” Shintaro, Abe Shinzo and the like have been waiting for.

S Korea warns North after clash

At least 50 landed directly on the island, most of them hitting a South Korean military base there. In addition to the two deaths, 16 South Korean marines and three civilians were injured.
