According to sources familiar with the matter,Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation will make a withdrawal from the two business activities engaged in multipurpose resins within the year.Specifically,it will sell out its holding shares of its affiliated company engaged in producing polyethylene used for materials for hosehold appliances and sundry goods.And producing polyvinyl chloride resins used for construction and piping materials also will be stopped.
Separating off the businesses whose proficiencies have been deterioating due to tough competion with rivals from the Middle East and Asia and declining domestic demand,the company intends to focus its effort on growing business areas such as pharmaceuticals and new materials used for solar batteries.
While among major manufacturing companies at home there has been a tendency that they will continue producing many products as a general manufacturer, the movement that they will concentrate their business efforts on their focused business areas amid the ongoing rigid recession is likely to spread from now on.
