Rolex to Raise Japan Watch Prices After Swiss Franc Soars

Rolex will raise prices of watches in Japan next month and Patek Philippe is considering doing the same after Switzerland’s removal of a currency peg caused the franc to surge.

Rolex will increase the price of its steel Submariner Date with a black bezel by 8 percent to 810,000 yen ($6,800) from Feb. 1, said a Tokyo-based spokeswoman, who asked not to be named because of the company’s policy. It will be the first increase since November 2013, according to the watchmaker.

Rolex’s spokeswoman said the price increase wasn’t because of the central bank’s move as the yen had already been weakening against the franc.

8% の値上げの例示が、ブルームバーグの記事中にありました。

ジョーダン・ショックによるスイスフラン暴騰が、値上げの理由として当然推察されるのですが、ロレックスの広報は、スイス国立銀行によるユーロ・スイスフランの上限撤廃(→スイスフランが高値圏で推移)とは関係しないようなことを言っています。

スイスフラン暴騰と、予定されていた値上げの時期とが、偶々重なったのかもしれませんので、ロレックス広報の発言は本当かもしれませんが、私が思ったのは、スイスフランが今後下げてきても、ロレックスの値下げはしないのだろうということです。
