Diary?

Hi there! Jun Tomioka here.

There are 3 months left this year.
I am thinking about a schedule for next year.
So, I bought a new diary for 2022.

By the way, I mean that “daily” is a notebook to write down
my schedule but someone might imagine a notebook to write
daily happenings. It’s confusing.

I checked how native speakers say it.
I knew they use the words “diary” ”planner” and ”personal organizer”.

In the UK, they often seem to use “diary”.
In the USA, they often seem to use “planner”.

The word “personal organizer” is cool but it’s not easy for me
to say it.

I am familiar with the word "diary" but I heard this word is a little bit childish.
I will use the word "planner" from now on.

Voting Rate

Hi there! Jun Tomioka here.

The election for the House of Representatives will be held
this autumn in Japan.

I was interested in voting rate in Japan and searched about it
through the internet.

In Japan, people over 18 years old have the rights to vote.
The result of the election in 2017 was as below:
Teens 40.49%
20s 33.85%
30s 44.75%
40s 53.52%
50s 63.32%
60s 72.04%
over70 60.94%
Total 53.68%

The voting rate of young generation is lower than old people’s.

But I found a good example of one prefecture.
It’s Yamagata Prefecture.
The voting rate in Yamagata was 64.07% in total and 47.24% for teens.
Both of them are No.1 in Japan.

They say that members of the election committee in Yamagata have been
conducting lectures about the election in junior high schools
and high schools for a long time.

I think this is a good action.
Other areas should follow this example.

Yashin no Susume

I read a book titled “Yashin no Susume” written by Mrs.Mariko Hayashi
who is a very famous Japanese novelist.

“Yashin no Susume”means “An encouragement of ambition”in English.
Yashin in Japanese means ambition in English by dictionary.
I think the word “ambition” is a very positive word.
But “Yashin” in Japanese has a little bit negative image.
This word includes a meaning of“shameless”and “aggressive”.
Since Japanese are modest people, aggressive behaviors are not liked.
The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

But Mrs.Hayashi says “Young Japanese lack of ambitions. If you want
something eagerly, you could get it. Don’t hesitate to challenge.
Don’t be afraid of failure”

I agree with her.
No pain, no gain.

Locomotive Syndrome

The other day, I learnt a new phrase.
It's "Locomotive Syndrome".
Have you heard about it?

The Orthopedics Society of Japan proposed this concept in 2007.
It is a condition where people have troubles in moving
as they grow older and suffer from decline in muscles functions.

Exercising is the best way to avoid this syndrome.
For young people, it's best to practice regular exercise already
because it's also for their future.

Sometimes, I try to walk or jog during my free time but
I tend to gain weight since I have been working at home
for a long time already.

Let’s be careful about lack of exercise.

Cup Noodle

Hi there! Jun Tomioka here.

I read a newspaper called Nikkei MJ（Marketing Journal）
and found an article about Cup Noodle.

It said Cup Noodle marked 50th anniversary.
Cup Noodle is developed and started to sell in 1971 by
Nissin Food Company.

Before, there were several instant noodle products but
people needed to cook them.
Cup Noodle was epoch making.
What we need to do is to put hot water in the cup and
wait for 3 minutes!

Cup Noodle became very popular in not only Japan but all
over the world.
The number of sold products in the world reached 50 billion.

Mr.Ando, the president of the company, said in the interview,
“It’s grateful for us that many people eat Cup Noodle for
such a long time. But we have to develop new products which
surpass it.”

I’m looking forward to seeing something new from
Nissin Food Company.
