　＊イギリスの上流階級に生まれ、騎兵将校となりインドや南アフリカに従軍
　＊従軍した後、２６歳で議員に当選する
　＊チャーチルは早くからヒトラーの台頭を警戒していた
　☆ヒトラーの生い立ち
　＊オーストリアの貧しい家庭に生まれ画家を志すが挫折
　＊第一次大戦では兵士として従軍
　＊ドイツ敗戦後、極端な愛国思想を唱えて政界へ進出
　☆時代は第二次大戦に突入し２人は激突する

チャーチルが政府関係者に伝えた名演説
　☆私は、血、労苦、涙、そして汗以外の何も提供するものはない
　☆我々は目前にかつてない重大な苦難を抱えている
　☆我々の目前には、数ヶ月もの長い努力と苦痛が多数待ちかまえている
　☆諸君は『我々の方針は何か？』と問うだろう
　☆私は答える
　☆陸海空において神が我々に与えた全ての力を用いて戦うことだ
　☆今までかつてない、人類の悲惨な犯罪史にさえ無い、途方もない暴政に対して戦うことだ
　☆これが我々の方針だ
　☆諸君は『我々の目標は何か？』と問うだろう
　☆私は一言で答えられる、『勝利だ』と
　☆どのような犠牲を払おうとも勝つこと、どのような悲劇が待ち受けようとも勝つこと
　☆どれほどその道が長く険しかろうとも、勝利なくして生き残ることはない

I would say to the House,
　as I said to those who have joined this Government
　I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat.
　We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind.
　We have before us many, many long months of struggle and suffering.
　You ask, what is our policy?
　I can say:
　It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might
　and with all the strength that God can give us:
　to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark,
　lamentable catalogue of human crime.
　That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim?
　I can answer in one word:
　It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory,
　however long and hard the road may be;
　for without victory, there is no survival.

　☆フランスで、海で戦う、日々、自信と力とを強めつつ、空で戦う

　☆たとえこの島やその大部分が征服され、飢えに苦しむとも
　☆我々はけっして降伏しない
　☆神のご加護のある時代、新世界が全力で旧世界の救助と解放とに向かうまで
　☆海の向こうで英国艦隊が武装保護する我らが王国は努力を続けるだろう

We shall go on to the end,
　we shall fight in France,
　we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
　we shall fight with growing confidence
　and growing strength in the air,
　we shall defend our Island,
　whatever the cost may be,
　we shall fight on the beaches,
　we shall fight on the landing grounds,
　we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
　we shall fight in the hills;
　we shall never surrender, and even if,
　which I do not for a moment believe,
　this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving,
　then our Empire beyond the seas,
　armed and guarded by the British Fleet,
　would carry on the struggle,
　until, in God's good time,
　the New World, with all its power and might,
　steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.
