読みやすい英語の本についての紹介を仕様と思ってグーグルしていたら、5年ほど前のものかもしれませんが、慶應大学商学部1.2年生用の英語の授業のシラバスが出てきました。そこではRoald Dahl、C.S.Lewis, Louis Sacharといった、私がいままでに紹介したり、これから取り上げてみようと考えていた児童向けの物語を教材に用いている授業があることが分かりました。このブログでもちょっととりあげてみましょう。
シラバスを読むと、慶應大学商学部ではTOEICなどの試験を用いてクラス分けしていることがわかります。
基礎、中級、準上級、上級（一般）、上級（帰国）と四つのクラスにわけられているようです。上級（帰国）というのはいわゆるバイリンガルですから除外しますと、全部で4段階に分かれると言うことです。
Dahl等の子ども向け読み物を授業で用いているのは、準上級です。その中のコミュニケーションの2年生のクラスです。さすがにリーディングの授業ではなく、あくまでもコミュニケーションの授業として用いられるようです。もう少し中身を見てきましょう。
英語コミュニケーションⅡａ（準上級） 1 単位（春学期）英語コミュニケーションⅡｂ（準上級） 1 単位（秋学期）
授業科目の内容：This class is based upon Roald Dahl’s novel Danny, Champion of the World and C.S. Lewis’ The Lion the Witch and the
Wardrobe. Both books are classic children’s books (but not too easy). We will cover one book per semester. Students will read the
books as homework. In class we will discuss and write about the books; their content, their themes, and also more general topics
related to the books. Students will do some research and writing connected to the books and the topics used in class.

授業の計画： As preparation for the class, students will read one or two chapters each week, and will research topics assigned by the teacher.
The chapters to be read will be announced each week in class. In class the work done will depend upon the content of the actual
chapters read, but there will always be extended discussion, there will be verbal summary of the reading, and there will be a variety
of other work, including written work.
DahlのDanny, Champion of the Worldは、残念ながら私が未読の数少ないダール作品です。たしか古い訳は絶版になってしまったはずですが、新訳『ダニーは世界チャンピオン』があります。（旧訳は相模原市の図書館にはあります。すくなくとも東林間の公民館にはありました）。映画化もされています。原文の一部がありますので、
写真を掲載しておきましょう。ルイスの方は前回紹介しましたね、『魔女とライオン』というナルニア国シリーズの第一巻です。
これらの本については、子ども向けの本の古典であるが、あまり易しすぎるわけではないという評価を慶應の先生はくだしています。そして、週一回の授業で、1-2章読み進めていき、春学期秋学期でそれぞれ一冊づつ読んでいく計画です。ただし、読むだけの授業ではなく、アンダーラインをひいておきましたが、ディスカションをし、口頭で要約を発表させ、さらにはペーパーを書かせるとのことです。ディスカションは大変だと思いますが、面白そうな授業ですね。

もう一つの授業では、ダールの『チョコレート工場』とサッカーの『穴』が使われます。こちらも両方とも映画化されていますし、児童文学の傑作として知られています。ただし、Holesはちょっと英語が難しめかもしれません。授業の進め方は上記と同じで、準上級のコミュニケーションで2年生用、一学期に一冊よみ、授業ではディスカション等があります。
Louis SacharとHOLESについては、機会を設けてもう一度紹介する予定です。
