These days most smartphones have the same functions/ same features. ----------> この頃、ほとんどのスマートフォンには同じ機能がついている
The opposite ----------> 反対、逆の
Similar -----------> 似ている
Different ------------> 違う、異なる
A and B are different. -----------> AとBは違う
A and B are similar. -----------> AとBは似ている
A and B are the opposite. ----------> AとBは反対
A and B are the same. ---------> AとBは同じ
A is different from B. -----------> AはBと違う
A is the opposite of B. -----------> AはBの逆、反対

【比較級】
2つの物を比較する時は一音節の形容詞は erをつけて than。2音節以上ならmore+形容詞+than
「ずっと~だ」と言いたいときは much +形容詞er +than / much +more +形容詞+than
America is very big. ---------------> アメリカはとても大きい
America is bigger than Japan. -----------> アメリカは日本より大きい
America is much bigger than Japan. -----------> アメリカは日本よりもずっと大きい
I like ice cream. -------------> 私はアイスクリームが好きです
I like ice cream very much. ------------> 私はアイスクリームが大好きです
A is more expensive than B.------------> AはBより高価
A is much more expensive than B. ------------> AはBよりもずっと高価
A is easier than B.----------> AはBより易しい/ 簡単

【How do you know?】
how -------> どのような方法・手段や経緯を尋ねる「どのようにして」
why ----------> 単純に理由の「なぜ」を尋ねる
How do you know? -------------> どうして知っているの / 何で知っているの
How do you open? --------------> どっやって開けるの?
How do you know she’s married? -------------> どうして彼女が結婚していると知っているの(「どうして」と聞いているが、「どうやって知ったのか」を聞きたがっている--> 彼女が教えてくれたとか)
*訳は「どうして」ですが、方法や経緯を知りたいのでHowになる(knowの時はhowで聞くことが多いです)

Why do you want ? ----------> なぜ欲しいの?
Why do you believe? ------------> どうして信じているの
Why do you study? ------------> なぜ勉強しているの
know ---------> 知っている、すでに知っていることを理解している

tell === 五感で分かるもの(can, can'tと一緒に使われることが多い)
I can tell by the color whether or not this avocado is ripe. -----------> 色でこのアボガドが熟しているかどうかが分かります
analogical reasoning ------------>類推
I can’t understand why she didn’t go to the party. ----------> 彼女がなぜパーティへ来なかったかが理解できない
I don’t know her name. ----------> 彼女の名前が分からない
I don’t know what time it is. ----------> 何時か分からない
I can’t tell who you are. ----------> あなたが誰なのか分からない
【選ぶと決める】
choose (動詞:選ぶ)利用可能な選択肢の中から選ぶ
decide (動詞:決める)あらゆる要素を考慮した上で結論を出すこと。決定の結果。
choose(現在)- chose(過去)- chosen(過去分詞)
choice --------> 名詞;選ぶこと、選択
good choice --------> 良い選択 / bad choice --------> 悪い選択
Dessert-wise, there are a lot of choices. ----------> デザートに関してはたくさんの選択肢があります
You have to choose one. ---------> あなたは一つ選ばないといけない
During this summer vacation, I can’t decide whether or not to go to America or Hokkaido. ---------> この夏休みの間、わたしはアメリカに行くか北海道に行くかを決めることができない
I decided not to go to Tokyo. ------------> 東京へ行かないことを決めた
I decided to wait until next year to buy a car. ----------> 来年まで車を買うのを待つことに決めた
