Anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd says it needs to raise $1.4 million or it could lose its flagship vessel the Steve Irwin, which is caught up in a lawsuit.

The group says the Steve Irwin has been detained in the United Kingdom where a court is hearing a civil lawsuit brought against Sea Shepherd by a Maltese company, Fish & Fish Ltd (F&F).

Sea Shepherd president and founder Paul Watson says the dispute began in June 2010 when the Steve Irwin rescued endangered bluefin tuna from F&F nets.

On July 15, the ship was detained by UK court officials in the Scottish Shetland Islands.

"They are claiming damages," Captain Watson said in a statement on Wednesday.

"We believe these fish were caught illegally - after the season closed, without an inspector on board, and without any legal paperwork for their catch."

Captain Watson said the group would "aggressively defend the case" but in the meantime it needed to post a bond for $US1,411,692 ($A1.32 million) by next week or the ship would be held indefinitely or possibly sold.

No felony charges for flier accused of groping Phoenix screener

A 61-year-old Colorado woman accused of grabbing a breast of an airport security screener in Phoenix will not face felony charges of sexual abuse, the Maricopa County Attorney said today.

The case of Yukari Miyamae has been referred to the Phoenix City Prosecutor "for review and possible charging as a misdemeanor," according to a news release from the office of County Attorney Bill Montgomery.

　東京都渋谷区で１９９７年に起きた東京電力女性社員殺害事件で、強盗殺人罪により無期懲役が確定したネパール国籍の元飲食店員ゴビンダ・プラサド・マイナリ受刑者（４４）が裁判のやり直しを求めた再審請求審で、東京高検が、被害者の体から採取された精液などのＤＮＡ鑑定を行った結果、精液は同受刑者以外の男性のもので、そのＤＮＡ型が殺害現場に残された体毛と一致したことがわかった。

これは大きい。当時かなり問題にされていた事件である。

今国会で成立し、１０月から施行される求職者支援法は新しい試みだ。生活費を得ながら無料で職業訓練を受けられる制度である。失業給付の対象外だったり、給付が切れたりした人が、いきなり生活保護に陥ることを防ぐ「第２の安全網」としての役割が期待されている。

これは評価。
