Skinhead Picks Fight With ‘Boxing Club Champion’ and Loses
Lauri Apple ― While getting blotto at some Bayview, Idaho bar the other day, 28-year-old white supremacist Daren C. Abbey allegedly threatened and tried to fight Marlon L. Baker, an African-American and rumored "champion" of the Spokane Boxing Club. Bet he regrets that now.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Abbey confronted Baker at the bar and "began threatening to stab Baker if he would not leave Bayview" because "blacks are not welcome here"―which, aside from all the obvious reasons, was so out of line, because Abbey's not even from Bayview. When Baker left the bar, Abbey followed him out while allegedly yelling racist things, as one might expect a drunken Neo-Nazi to do. Abbey then tried to pounce on Baker, who "punched Abbey in the face once, knocking him down" and possibly breaking Abbey's white supremacist nose. When Abbey came to, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery and felony malicious harassment.

Update: Teacher Who Threatend To Hang Student Reassigned After Warning
A nearly two-month-long investigation into a District 205 English teacher concluded at Monday night’s school board meeting with a resolution regarding notice of remediable warning.
In early May, a YouTube video surfaced showing Galesburg High School English teacher Rona Gutzky making allegedly racist remarks to a GHS sophomore in her class.
The initial report claimed Gutzky said she could “hang” the biracial student, his black family and his “white momma.”
Gutzky was almost immediately suspended from her duties at the high school, as an investigation including District 205 administration and union leadership ensued.
When provided representation and an opportunity to explain her conduct, according to the resolution, “Gutzky failed to provide an explanation.”

Racism Rears Its Ugly Head At Australian Church
Father Dennis Crameri said there was no place for racism after relaying the story to stunned church-goers on Sunday about how Yves Nkoranyi felt parishioners were bypassing him for communion, in his role as a special minister, because of the colour of his skin.
Mr Nkoranyi told Father Crameri of his hurt at instances of people changing aisles to avoid being served communion by him at services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The family has also been abused in a supermarket car park since moving to Wodonga nearly three years ago, but he was more upset by the treatment of some fellow churchgoers.
“I was seeing people jumping from my line and jumping onto other lines,” he said yesterday.
“For that to happen in the church was really bad.
“Maybe they don’t like to be served by my black hand.”

Youth jailed for eight years for anti-gay violence
Friday 08 July 2011
A 19-year-old youth has been jailed for eight years for the attempted manslaughter of three gay men by a court in Maastricht.
An 18-year-old youth was given 24 months in juvenile detention and a psychiatric prison term for the same offences.
Stefano I and Tanusan S, both from Sittard, made contact with their victims via internet chat rooms. After setting up a meeting, the men were violently attacked. One was put in the boot of his car and driven to Germany where he was dumped. The car was set on fire.
The court was told that Stefano I had had homosexual contacts for some time and started attacking gay men to prove he was straight.

Racism 'Still An Issue' In English Schools
Racism is still an issue in England's schools, with both pupils and teachers showing racist behaviour, research has suggested.
More than four-fifths (83%) of teachers questioned said they had witnessed racist attitudes or behaviour among their students.
This included name calling, comments, jokes and stereotyping of different races.
Almost a third of those questioned said they had seen similar behaviour among teachers, showing the attitudes were not just restricted to pupils.
In some cases, they used racist terminology, or had lower expectations of ethnic minority pupils.
Some interviewees had come across "teachers with racist attitudes, for example those who were dismissive of the Asian pupils due to perceived language issues".
The study, by anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card , supported by the National Union of Teachers (NUT), is based on a survey of 148 teachers, plus interviews, pupil observations and a research journal.
It aims to investigate the issues of racism and inequality in the education system.
More than a third (39%) of those questioned said they had not received any training in tackling racism.
The vast majority of teachers surveyed (93%) said that if they saw a racist incident they would feel they could report it.
But it adds: "There was evidence of a lack of action against racist attitudes and behaviour and a lack of understanding of the mechanisms and reasons for reporting racist incidents.

Mata and Moreno were accused of walking a woman with a blood alcohol level of three times the legal limit into her apartment and sexually assaulting her. A woman made claims that one of the men stood guard while the other raped her. Surveillance camera footage shows the two officers entering and exiting the building four times over the course of the early morning hours and a secret tape recording was presented to jurors in which Moreno seemingly admits to the rape and even discusses wearing a condom. Even still, that wasn’t enough for the juror to find them guilty.
Now, however, a woman who wishes to not be identified by name is saying that only months earlier Mata and Moreno were involved in a similar incident which was swept under the rug.

In the ongoing investigation of police brutality and misconduct during the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, the latest person to take the stand against New Orleans officers says he was kicked, punched and beaten after cops opened fire on him.
Leonard Bartholomew IV was 14 years old during the natural disaster, and he said that he was trying to cross New Orleans’ Danziger Bridge when a box truck tore past him and someone began shooting from inside.
Former 7th District Officer Kevin Bryan says he asked fellow cop Ignatius Hills why he was shooting at Bartholomew and asked him "What the f--- are you doing?"
"I was trying to shoot that little n------," responded Hills, says Bryan.
The two officers raced after the teenager, eventually trapping him on the ground. Bryan says he “slapped him with an open hand” in “the heat of the moment,” but then felt horrible over the incident.
Attorneys representing the defense are arguing that hysteria and trauma that came as a result of Katrina caused officers to work under conditions they weren’t use to and that mistakes were made as a result.

Cops get house arrest for Cabbagetown beating
Published On Tue Jun 28 2011
In a scathing attack on police accountability, a Superior Court judge has criticized the “culture which rejects discipline” at 51 Division.
“This attitude is inconsistent with effective policing. It is inconsistent with the rule of law,” Justice J.E. Allen said Tuesday as he lambasted the officers and their superiors at the downtown police division.
Police turned a blind eye to thuggish behaviour by officers that’s worthy of a criminal gang, Allen said as he sentenced two 51 Division officers who severely beat a Cabbagetown man to one year of house arrest
“This behaviour we expect from gang members on the street, not the police,” he said.
In a courtroom packed with fellow officers from the division, the judge also ordered constables Edward Ing, 42, and John Cruz, 38, not to possess firearms for 10 years for their assault on retired ironworker Richard Moore.
Moore, 60, suffered many injuries ― including fractured ribs ― in April 2009 when he was arrested by Ing and Cruz for allegedly being drunk in public. The officers were convicted last January of assault causing bodily harm.

LAS VEGAS (KTNV/CNN) - Police in Las Vegas said they will take a second look at more than 200 cases that may have botched DNA evidence after an accidental switch at the lab sent the wrong man to prison for almost four years.
Now police said they will have to work to clear Dwayne Jackson's name.
"To say this error is regrettable would be an understatement," said Sheriff Doug Gillespie with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.
He said the incident was unacceptable and was not up to the police force's standards.
"There are no words I could say that will give back the time Mr. Jackson spent incarcerated," he said.

Court gives woman go-ahead to take controversial section 60 to task over allegations it discriminates against black people

The high court has agreed that a full legal challenge can be brought against a police stop-and-search power alleged to be used in a racist way against African-Caribbean people.
The challenge follows officers stopping and searching a 37-year-old woman with no convictions, after they claimed she was holding onto her bag in a suspicious way.
The woman, Ann Roberts, ended up being held down by officers on the floor in front of other people, handcuffed and taken to a police station where she was wrongly accused of being a class A drug user and placed on a treatment programme under the threat of arrest if she failed to attend.
Roberts was stopped under section 60 of the 1994 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, brought in to tackle illegal raves. The power allows police to stop and search people without having a reasonable suspicion they are involved in criminality.
Roberts, a special needs assistant, argued that a disproportionate number of black Londoners are searched in violation of article 14 of the European convention on human rights, which bans discrimination.
Her lawyers say statistical evidence implies that a black person is more than nine times more likely to be searched than a white person. They go on say section 60 is "incompatible" with three articles of the convention: 14, 5, which protects the right to liberty and security, and 8, which protects the right to private and family life.
Police say section 60 is a valuable tool which has been used to tackle areas plagued by violence.
On 9 September 2010 Roberts was on a bus when an inspector found she had insufficient money for her journey on her prepaid Oyster card.
Police were called when she could not produce identity documents.
According to her lawyers, she was searched under section 60 after a police officer took the view she was holding on to her bag in a manner that suggested she had something to hide.
She was told the area she was in was a "hotspot" for gang violence and the possession of knives. Few, if any, acts of gang violence are committed by married women in their mid 30s.
Roberts asked to be searched in a police station rather than in public in case it was seen by young people with whom she worked.
Police refused and when they tried to seize her handbag a struggle followed which led to officers restraining her on the floor.
Three bank cards with different identities were found in her bag. She explained they were in her name, her maiden name – having recently married – and her son's name.
She was told she was being arrested on suspicion of fraud and taken to Tottenham police station.
She was subjected to a drugs test which she was told showed small amounts of crack cocaine, but a later test showed she was clear.
After being put in a cell, she was interviewed and told she was no longer suspected of fraud but was being detained on suspicion that she had obstructed a police search.
Later a caution was administered for obstruction.
