It has been learned that Marubeni Corporation has recently reached a comprehensive agreement with China Grain Reserves Corporation,based on Beijing and in charge of management of China's food stocks.Under the agreement,Marubeni is to purchase grains like soy beans and others overseas on a large scale,and also, Marubeni and China Grain Reserves will make joint investments in overseas crop-collecting- facility-managing companies.
In china demand for foods has sharply been increasing, and therefore the Chinese side wants to secure a stable supply of grains from overseas, making use of the Marubeni's purchasing power in the global market.
On the other hand,the Marubeni side intends to seek developing the selling channel of foods in Chinese market,whose size is about ten times that in Japanese one. In addition,it wants to enhance its bargaining power with grain-producing nations and firms in the world through the tie-up with a Chinese state-affiliated company.This will lead to a stable supply of foods to Japan,it thinks.
