One of the current interesting mode of ham radio is FT8, the new mode has high activity on each band and we can see many spots on the cluster. People who completed DXCC on CW and SSB tend to try this new mode in the next target.
In contrast traditional CW mode the activity going to lessen drastically and difficult to find new comer on the bands as we realized on CW bands.
On the QRZ news today, found very interesting experiment which tried to compare those modes and we can see the movie posted by F3CWI. The movie is here.
Ham Radio Adventures 14: FT8 vs CW; an amateur radio shootout

There are no definite conclusion which mode is better but you will get some ideas from this experiment. They did a comparison operation at SOTA (sumit on the air) environment where they had a limited time, material and power, if you do the same at fixed station using big power and antenna the result may different.
Anyway the video tells you both modes are running on our ham world and we can enjoy CW and FT8 co-exist for some extent unless new mode arrive in the future.
