小笠原諸島の沖合で、中国漁船が貴重なサンゴを密漁しているとみられる問題で、漁船は活動する海域を伊豆諸島にも広げていて、1日、上空からの取材でも多数の漁船が確認されました。
海上保安庁では、警戒に当たる海域を広げるなど態勢を強化して、監視や取締りなどの対応に当たっています。

いずれにせよ、地元の不良グループや性産業が用意するような私的なセーフティネットに負けない、貧困の淵にいる子どもたちの居場所をつくることが必要だということ。そういう居心地のいい場所をつくって、自然に介入できるような空間にするということだ。

 これは確かに民間にしかできない。

 民間の施設を、行政が変な責任を問われない形で支援することだろう。たとえば行政が校区の自治団体に補助金を出し、その自治団体がさらに補助金の形でこうした民間組織を支えるようにして、行政とは一定の距離をおいておくようなしくみだ。まあ、補助金のロンダリングみたいなもんだが。


 



その人間の人となりを知りたければ、 同等の人じゃなく、 目下の人を彼がどう扱うかをよく観察するんだ


 その社会がどんな社会か知りたければ、弱者にどんな態度をとり、どう扱うかを、よく観察するんだ、ともいえるのではないかな。

Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Koichi Kato on the Issue of the so-called "Wartime Comfort Women" from the Korean Peninsula

July 6, 1992

Since December 1991, the Government has conducted an inquiry as to whether it had been involved in the issue of the so-called "wartime comfort women" from the Korean Peninsula into the ministries and agencies which might keep the related materials. I would like to announce the following findings as a result of this inquiry.

They are as described in the handouts, and I will summarize the main points here. That is, the inquiry has revealed that the Government had been involved in the establishment of comfort stations, the control of those who recruited comfort women, the construction and reinforcement of comfort facilities, the management and surveillance of comfort stations, the hygiene maintenance in comfort stations and among comfort women, and the issuance of identification as well as other documents to those who were related to comfort stations. Regarding the specific contents of the inquiry, we have outlined each material for those who are interested to read. The Cabinet Councilors' Office on External Affairs will explain in detail later, so that you can ask any questions you have on the contents.

The Government again would like to express its sincere apology and remorse to all those who have suffered indescribable hardship as so-called "wartime comfort women", irrespective of their nationality or place of birth. With profound remorse and determination that such a mistake must never be repeated, Japan will maintain its stance as a pacifist nation and will endeavor to build up new future-oriented relations with the Republic of Korea and with other countries and regions in Asia.

As I listen to many people, I feel truly grieved for this issue. By listening to the opinions of people from various directions, I would like to consider sincerely in what way we can express our feelings to those who suffered such hardship.



This is not Kono statement some right wingers are trying to deny. This is Kato statement which was issued before Kono statement. The right wingers accept Kato's statement.

 こういう比ゆを使うと叱られるのであるが、死の選択肢というのは、苦しみから逃れる術を失った個人にとっては、やはり、解放の選択肢であることは否めない。

朝日では「日本軍の強制収容所に入れられたオランダ人女性も出席。「優しい日本人と多く会い、癒やされました」」とある。女性被害者が国王とともに来日したということの意味はかなり大きい。

これはこれで良いが、オランダ統治下で現地住民は奴隷性奴隷扱いされていたし、インドネシアが独立するときに、オランダはインドネシアに再侵攻し、現地人を大量虐殺している。それどころか、オランダは『インドネシアの独立に際して、インドネシアに対して』賠償金を要求している。

Dリーグのドラフトが1日に行われ、富樫を2巡目で指名したサンタクルーズ・ウォリアーズの広報がレジェンズにトレードしたと話した。

 富樫は10月にマーベリックスのキャンプに参加。マーベリックスは当初、ドラフトを経る必要のない選手枠を使って富樫をレジェンズに送る方針だった。10月29日にガードのバレアを獲得したことなどにより状況が変わり、ドラフト対象になったとみられる。

And does the woman on the top look like Korean? I for one can't tell Japanese women from Korean women.

IF prostitution of children is illegal, why is it that we allow an estimated 100,000 underage girls and boys to be sold for sex in America each year — many on a single American website, Backpage.com?



Now 17, she says she was sold for sex on Backpage when she was 15 and 16; she estimates that she was raped 1,000 times as a result. She is seeking damages and whatever injunctions the court finds appropriate, but she is not explicitly seeking to close down the entire Backpage site.

Some readers may scoff that this is about censorship of free speech. No, it’s about human rights — because one of the most searing rights abuses in America is the sexual exploitation of children.


Americans rightly waxed indignant at the way the Roman Catholic Church or Penn State turned a blind eye to the sexual abuse of minors. But our entire society does the same thing.

Why, throughout human history, have people been so drawn to fiction?

Humans have been telling stories for thousands of years, sharing them orally even before the invention of writing. In one way or another, much of people’s lives are spent telling stories—often about other people. In her paper “Gossip in Evolutionary Perspective,” evolutionary psychologist Robin Dunbar found stories’ direct relevance to humans: Social topics—especially gossip—account for 65 percent of all human conversations in public places.

Stories can be a way for humans to feel that we have control over the world. They allow people to see patterns where there is chaos, meaning where there is randomness. Humans are inclined to see narratives where there are none because it can afford meaning to our lives—a form of existential problem-solving. In a 1944 study conducted by Fritz Heider and Marianne Simmel at Smith College, 34 college students were shown a short film in which two triangles and a circle moved across the screen and a rectangle remained stationary on one side of the screen. When asked what they saw, 33 of the 34 students anthropomorphized the shapes and created a narrative: The circle was “worried,” the “little triangle” was an “innocent young thing,” the big triangle was “blinded by rage and frustration.” Only one student recorded that all he saw were geometric shapes on a screen.




Stories can also inform people’s emotional lives. Storytelling, especially in novels, allows people to peek into someone’s conscience to see how other people think. This can affirm our own beliefs and perceptions, but more often, it challenges them. Psychology researcher Dan Johnson recently published a study in Basic and Applied Social Psychology that found reading fiction significantly increased empathy towards others, especially people the readers initially perceived as “outsiders” (e.g. foreigners, people of a different race, skin color, or religion)



Interestingly, the more absorbed in the story the readers were, the more empathetic they behaved in real life. Johnson tested this by “accidentally” dropping a handful of pens when participants did not think they were being assessed. Those who had previously reported being “highly absorbed” in the story were about twice as likely to help pick up the pens.

A recent study in Science magazine adds more support to the idea that stories can help people understand others, determining that literary fiction “uniquely engages the psychological processes needed to gain access to characters’ subjective experiences.” That’s to say, if you read novels, you can probably read emotions.



But why start telling stories in the first place? Their usefulness in understanding others is one reason, but another theory is that storytelling could be an evolutionary mechanism that helped keep our ancestors alive.



The theory is that if I tell you a story about how to survive, you’ll be more likely to actually survive than if I just give you facts. For instance, if I were to say, “There’s an animal near that tree, so don’t go over there,” it would not be as effective as if I were to tell you, “My cousin was eaten by a malicious, scary creature that lurks around that tree, so don’t go over there.” A narrative works off of both data and emotions, which is significantly more effective in engaging a listener than data alone.



Perhaps the real reason that we tell stories again and again—and endlessly praise our greatest storytellers—is because humans want to be a part of a shared history.



Humans have been telling the same stories for millennia. Author Christopher Booker claims there are only seven basic plots, which are repeated over and over in film, in television, and in novels with just slight tweaks. There is the “overcoming the monster” plot (Beowulf, War of the Worlds); “rags to riches” (Cinderella, Jane Eyre); “the quest” (Illiad, The Lord of the Rings); “voyage and return” (Odyssey, Alice in Wonderland); “rebirth” (Sleeping Beauty, A Christmas Carol); “comedy” (ends in marriage); and “tragedy” (ends in death).

1. Dispel the notion that reading poetry is going to dramatically change your life. Your life is continually changing; most of the time you’re simply too busy to pay enough attention to it. Poems ask you to pay attention—that’s all



3. Try to meet a poem on its terms not yours. If you have to “relate” to a poem in order to understand it, you aren’t reading it sufficiently. In other words, don’t try to fit the poem into your life. Try to see what world the poem creates. Then, if you are lucky, its world will help you re-see your own.



7. A poem cannot be paraphrased. In fact, a poem’s greatest potential lies in the opposite of paraphrase: ambiguity. Ambiguity is at the center of what is it to be a human being. We really have no idea what’s going to happen from moment to moment, but we have to act as if we do.





11. “Reading for pleasure” implies there’s “reading for displeasure” or “reading for pain.” All reading should be pleasurable: Like sex, it pleases to a greater or lesser degree, but pleasure ultimately isn’t the only point.




12. A poem can feel like a locked safe in which the combination is hidden inside. In other words, it’s okay if you don’t understand a poem. Sometimes it takes dozens of readings to come to the slightest understanding. And sometimes understanding never comes. It’s the same with being alive: Wonder and confusion mostly prevail.





15. Poetry depends on pattern and variation—even non-linear, non-narrative, anti-poetic poetry. By perceiving patterns and variations on those patterns, your brain will attempt to make order out of apparent chaos. “Glockenspiel,” “tadpole,” and “justice” have ostensibly nothing to do with each other, and yet your brain immediately tries to piece them together simply because they are there for the apprehending.





17. Reading poetry is not only about reading poetry. Its alleged hermetic stylizations of syntax and diction can enhance your awareness of the world, even those things that don’t deal directly in words. A dress, a building, a night sky—all involve systems of pattern-recognition and extrapolation.




20. Reading a good poem doesn’t give you something to talk about. It silences you. Reading a great poem pushes further. It prepares you for the silence that perplexes us all: death.

 在日コリアンに対するヘイトスピーチに反対する市民グループらが2日、東京・新宿でデモ行進し、約2千人が「差別を許すな」などと声を張り上げた。

 昨年9月に続き2回目。参加者は「NO HATE」「自国を誇るために他国をおとしめる必要はない」と書いたプラカードを掲げ、繁華街を行進。都庁前では行政による対策の必要性をアピールした


「自国を誇るために他国をおとしめる必要はない」ーーーまったくその通りなんだけど、日本のヘイト団体のみならず、韓国や外国人特派員にも言わないと、この負のスパイラルはやまないよ。
