MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Dayana Rodrigues graduated in the top 5% of her high school class in 2007 and completed nursing prerequisites at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

But The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that in January, the college refused to re-enroll the 20-year-old returning student because she is an undocumented immigrant.

The South Carolina Illegal Immigration Reform Act became law in June and, among other measures, banned illegal immigrants from attending colleges and universities that receive state money.

Supporters of the ban feel strongly that taxpayers' money should not fund a school that is educating lawbreakers. Opponents said it's unfair to punish children for their parents' crimes.

South Carolina is the first state to legalize such a ban, although other Southern states have restrictive policies.

Stretched thin in Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S. military will begin recruiting skilled immigrants who are living in this country with temporary visas, offering them the chance to become U.S. citizens in as few as six months.

Immigrants who are permanent residents, with documents commonly known as green cards, have long been eligible to enlist. But the new effort, for the first time since the Vietnam War, will open the armed forces to temporary immigrants if they have lived in the United States for at least two years, said military officials familiar with the plan

こっちは、永住権をもった人のみならず、一時的居住権をもった移民も兵役につけば、最短で、アメリカ国籍が得られる制度ができた、というもの。イラクやアフガニスタンでの紛争のために兵士が不足しているらしい。

New strict UK visa rules hoped to change behaviour of Aussie league stars

This week, Greg Eastward, New Zealand international playing for the Brisbane Broncos, is anxiously awaiting approval for his UK work permit. It is unclear as to why the application approval is taking so long, yet it has been suggested his driving convictions are causing trouble.

Von der Leyen said the reason behind the continuing rise in birth rates was a change in mentality.

"Young people have the feeling that the society will not simply leave them behind as parents," she said.

Von der Leyen, herself a mother of seven, introduced a parental leave reform in 2007 which included new benefits for German fathers allowing them to stay at home for a time with their children. The minister said her goal had been to lower the hurdles couples felt about having children.

According to surveys, 56 percent of stay-at-home mothers would like to work.

"But not at any price," said von der Leyen. "They want good child care and part-time work. We have to meet these mothers halfway."

‘Racist assault wrecked my sight’

A YOUNG woman brutally assaulted in a racist attack in Aberdeen today revealed her sight has been permanently damaged.

Lucy Newman, 22, suffered a broken nose, broken cheekbone and nerve damage to her left eye in the racist attack.

Doctors say Lucy’s sight will never fully return to normal.

Police today said their inquiries had concluded and confirmed the vicious attacker, who shouted: “Go back to England!” before punching Lucy, has yet to be caught.

Four Romanians beaten by 20 Italians on Sunday

Four Romanians were beaten by a group of Italian extremists in Rome on Sunday night, Italian newspapers read. Two of the Romanians were seriously injured and are currently hospitalized. The attack occurred in front of a kebab place, near Porta Furba tube station.

According to first information, at 22:30 pm, local time, about 20 Italians, aged between 18-20 and armed with bats, attacked two Romanians that were in the kebab place. Some of the aggressors had their face covered.

The Romanians were hospitalized with severe injuries. The place of the aggression is nearby the park where a 14 year old Italian girl was raped, presumably by Eastern European Rroma.

A second attack was registered at a couple of tube stops away, at Cinecitta, where a Romanian called the ambulance due to injuries after being beaten up by a group of Italians.

　いろいろ分析しているが、面白いのは、男性は、ある特定の種類のシーン（をみて身体的にそそられるが、女性は、加えて、例えば、猿がやっているところでもそそられるらしい。汎性的である。ところが、女性は身体ははそう反応しているが、意識ではそれを自覚していない、という。

　あと、男女ともに、欲望の対象になることによってそそられる、らしい。自分が（選ばれて）欲せられている、と感じることで、興奮する、というわけだ。
　ただ、一般に、男性は自分を欲する者を征服することで、また、女性は自分を欲するものに服従することでそそられる、という。

　これと似た構図はネーゲルがたしか分析していた、と記憶する・・・ググるとあった。

自分の性的興奮によって相手の性的興奮を引き起こし、またそれによって性的興奮を得るという形のものを想定する[ネーゲル(1989）]性的客体化sexual objectification とセックスの倫理学(pdf)
