Reading books

2022-03-26 10:33:02 | 日記
Hi there! Jun Tomioka here.

My son is 15 years old.
From this April, he will go to high school.

He likes to play online games.
While studying for the entrance exam to high school,
I didn’t allow him to play games to let him concentrate
to study. But now, since he passed the exam, I gave him back
all his gadgets.

Now, he plays games all day since it is spring holidays.
I told him, “You can play games but it’s not good
for you to only play games. Why don’t you read books
sometimes?”

I went to a library and tried to find books for him.
A staff member recommended me the books written by
Shinichi Hoshi. They were collections of short stories.
It’s very easy to read.

I borrowed two books and lent them to my son.
Will he read them?

Only radio?

2022-03-25 09:59:52 | 日記
Hi there! Jun Tomioka here.

The final qualifying game for the World Cup Soccer between
Japan and Australia was held in Sydney, Australia.
It was a very important game for Japan to qualify for the World Cup.

But, but, but, why can’t we watch it on TV?
No single station broadcasted the match.
It was a pity.

The match was broadcasted only in the radio so I had no choice
but to listen to it earnestly.

Fortunately, Japan beat Australia and got the ticket to
the World Cup! Congratulations!

I will watch the video of the game today.

Speech by the president

2022-03-24 10:38:07 | 日記
Hi there! Jun Tomioka here.

Last evening, Mr. Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, made
an online speech in front of the members of the Diet in Japan.
I saw it on TV.

At first, he appreciated Japan’s support to Ukraine.
And he explained that Russia attacked the nuclear power plant
in Ukraine and how it can badly affect the world.

He might have thought that we Japanese would understand the risk
well because we had trouble about the nuclear power plant due to
the tsunami accident 11 years ago.

And he said he expect Japan’s leadership in Asia to pursuit
peace of the world.

He continues to appeal to help his country and bring back peace.
We should continue to support them.

Promise with my son

2022-03-23 07:57:57 | 日記
Hi there! Jun Tomioka here.

Six months ago, I took away my son’s gaming devices because
he didn’t study even though he had to study for the high school
entrance exam.

The exam was over. He passed the exam.
He asked me to return his game gadgets.
I agreed with him but made him promise me some things.

1. He has to stop playing it by 1 am.
2. He should go to school and take lessons earnestly.
3. Before the regular exam, he has to study before playing games.

Can he keep these promises?

70’s and 80’s

2022-03-22 08:34:21 | 日記
Hi there! Jun Tomioka here.

I just finished to read a mystery novel titled ‘Byakuyako’
written by Mr.Keigo Higashino who is one of the most popular
novelist in Japan.

This story was set during the 1970s and 1980s in Japan.
That is around 40 or 50 years ago.
I was about 10 to 20 years old then.

The story was complicated and exciting.
And aside from the story itself, it made me enjoy reminiscing
about the old days in Japan.

Back then, we didn’t have mobile phones.
Personal computers had just appeared and only few people
could use them.

Nowadays, we can’t live without IT gadgets like PC, smart phones
and so on. We are now enjoying convenient days.
