Yesterday, I read an article in a newspaper written by Mr.Yoshiharu Hoshino.
He is the president of Hoshino Resort Company.

He described business succession.
He took over the business from his father.
Although they often quarreled, now he appreciates his father’s efforts.

90% of companies in Japan are small or mid-sized family businesses.
Recently, sons or daughters tend to refuse to take over their family businesses.

But Mr.Hoshino recommends them to do it because the business is like a venture,
a kind of business that the risk is low.
New generation people can change everything about their businesses.

The other day, I wrote about a new year card in Japan called “Nengajo”.
Later, I talked with a Filipino about it.

I asked her if they have a similar card in the Philippines.
She answered “No”.
It was unexpected because I thought they exchanged Christmas cards,　too.

I know people in Europe and USA usually exchange Christmas cards.
My expectation was that Filipinos did it because the country was influenced
by western countries.

She said, “We send Christmas gifts. We sometimes attach a small card
with a gift but we never send an only Christmas card.”

Of course, we also send gifts to familiar people but in Philippines
they send gifts to even co-workers in the office.

It’s cost too much and troublesome, isn’t it?

However, another Filipina tutor told me that they only do this
in one department and do a random name picking activity to
find out who will be their "monito/monita".

Monito and Monita, the Filipino version of Secret Santa is one
of the most exciting highlights of every Christmas.
As early as December 1st, groups of friends or work mates draw
names from a box or container.
The chosen name would be the person who would receive the present.

Short Train

This is Jun Tomioka.

Yesterday, I went to Sumida Ward in Tokyo to have a meeting
with my client. The city is located in the eastern part of Tokyo.

I used a local train called “Kameido Line” to reach the place.

Kameido line is a very short train.
The distance is only 3.4km and it has only five stations.
A train runs with only two cars.

Where am I? Am I really here in Tokyo?

Coming back home, I searched about Kameido Line.
This line was opened in 1904 by Tobu Railway Company.

The company planned to extend this line from the eastern area to the central
area in Tokyo but due to some difficult reasons, they were not able to
do it. So, Kameido line did not progress very much.

I like this line because it reminds of me an old Tokyo’s atmosphere.

New Year’s Card

Hi there!
This is Jun Tomioka.

Yesterday, I made some new year’s cards by using my pc.
In Japan, it’s called “Nengajo”.
We write or make it and post them within the year, so they can be
delivered on the 1st of January.

They say that the number of Nengajo is decreasing because
we usually communicate with each other through the internet.
Some people stop sending Nengajo.

But I still send them.
Nengajo is a Japanese traditional culture and we can know
our latest news through it even if we don’t see each other often.
