In the Tokyo gubernatorial election, in which verbal battles have been ongoing, how to support females in order to eliminate gender inequality is also a point at issue.
Sitting Gov. Yuriko Koike (71), who became the 1st female Tokyo governor, has embedded the enactment of a "basic ordinance for females' participation and advancement" in her election pledges.
Former UH lawmaker Renho (56), has appealed to provide opportunities for females to take on challenges.

According to the Gender Equality Bureau Cabinet Office, the percentage of females in managerial positions in Tokyo was 16.0% in 2016, the 2nd place only after Tottori Pref.
Since then, it has been on an upward trend, at 16-17%. However, in 2023, it fell to 15.5%, the national 11st place.
In 2017, Gov. Koike appointed the 1st female vice governor in 22 years, she therefore sees herself as a driving force in female-promotion.
At the press conference releasing her campaign pledges, she emphasized that she would "make better use of the power of females."

The Asahi Shimbun is desperately trying to backup Ishiba Shigeru, saying that he is "a promising candidate in the LDP presidential election -- public opinion and weakening factions are positive factors."
It's no surprise, as his views, such as "accepting a female-lineage emperor" and "promoting separate surnames for married couples," fit perfectly with the Asahi's positions.
He is a politician who hitherto hopped on Asahi's bandwagon and continuously shot his allies from the "back."
If this male becomes LDP President, it will be a reproduction of the 2009 LH general election in which the LDP lost two-thirds of its seats.

There is nobody around me, who advocates separate surnames for married couples and different surnames for their children, and/or who wants to end the imperial lineage that has continued for over 2,000 years by emthroment of a female-lineage emperor.
However, according to The Asahi Shimbun, Ishiba, who "promotes separate surnames for married couples" & "accepts a female-lineage emperor," is a promising candidate for the next LDP President.
